looking to buy a motorbike in asia and looking for advice.
i am going back to south east asia at the beginning of december for a year/18 months and would like to buy a motor bike or scooter when i get there.
i have been in the area before but i never bought a bike i only rented them in sapa, bali and a few other places but this time i want to buy one.
i dont know anything technical at all on bikes and was going to read up on them to have a basic knowledge of what a problem is when i encounter it. also i dont have a driving license so will be riding illegally but i imagine if i avoid singapore on my bike then i could get by everywhere else maybe paying a few bribes here and there
i particularly want to travel laos on motor bike as the countryside is amazing there and i love being up the mountains there so if anyone has travelled laos on a bike i would love to hear about it. i have stayed in vietnam for 6 weeks before so i probably wont be going back there even though i love the country but i imagine hanoi or saigon are probably some of the best places to buy bikes so i might have to go back there to get the bike but if i could buy one elswhere it would be better.
so basically has anyone bought a bike in asia or got any advice on where to buy one, what to buy and where to go. i am not particularly fussed about selling it on at the end of my trip as i will probably just give it away to a local.
