I am backpacking through argentina bolivia and peru starting in september has anyone got any good ideas of where to go off the beaten track??
Reply to this These countries are already very turistic, so it is hard to go off the beaten track... Have you already see the beaten track?
There are special places, but it is really a question of what you like doing - are you into extrem sports? (you can do rafting in Cusco for example, sand boarding in Huacachina and more)
Do you like trekking and hiking - then you could spend months walking in the andeas in Peru and or in Bolivia...
Do you like seeing the jungle? - then you can go into Manoo National park or to other jungle parks in Peru (Iquitos, Lagunas ) or into the jungles in Bolivia out of Rurrenbaque...
You have to better define which kind of experience you want to have.
Reply to this I don't know how long you trip will be, but what i do when i have a long trip at night is to deprive myself of sleep actually so I can sleep on the trip. it just depends on if you are a morning or night person. also, if your luggage is with you and you sleep then sleep on it so no one can get in it you may already be doing this, but pack in a backpack, not a suitcase, especially if you are traveling by yourself.I'm guessing you can figure out how much and what kind of clothes to take so I won't bother with that get a headlamp if you don't have one. Those are the handiest things for traveling at night. I suggest the brands Princeton Tec or Petzel. carry plenty of water, and cash if you have a cell phone then get a local SIM card once you get there.

Reply to this Somewhat off the beaten track in Peru: the north of Peru, e.g. places like Chachapoyas and Leymebamba. Also Ayacucho in central Peru. In fact, as long as you stay away from the Gringo Trail you are off the very beaten track.
