Carnaval 2011

getting ideas for Carnaval 2011 and if anyone else would like to join in on an apartment to cut down costs

So, Carnaval and the ridiculous prices for hostels. I saw somewhere that was $200 a night for a dormitory bed. I really want to go to Carnaval, but not for that much. Two of us (we're a couple) really want to check out Salvador rather than Rio as it's a more audience-participation kinda thing, and I've checked out some apartments that are a lot more reasonably priced than hostels. Plus, I think after partying every night, it would be nice to have somewhere a little more private and relaxing than a backpacker hostel.

Is anyone out there interested in sharing accommodation in Salvador, or know of anyone who is?

G'day mate, im heading to South America with 2 friends in December. Definately going to Carnaval but dont have plans yet and havent talked to much about it but i will keep you posted. i have also seen the ridiculous prices of hostels over that period. i had a brief look at apartments and definately looks like the way to go, we dont mind doing it rough, crashing on a floor etc, just trying to do it the cheapest way. ill keep you posted. Hi Jian! I'm planning to be in Salvador for Carnaval and would love to share an apartment.. I haven't started looking for accommodation just yet but I've been once before and it's definitely worth it to have a good place to sleep... Let me know if you find something good =) just in case we can all get together, another couple responded to one of my posts about Carnaval but haven't heard back from them yet..

@Duane - where are you starting your trip? I arrive in Buenos Aires January 10th and am planning to travel around South America until Carnaval starts - maybe we can meet up? Reply to this

heya Kimberly, our plans are very much open at the moment, i think we were going to hit up Colombia and then Peru first so we could get the Inca trail done before it closes in February, there is a good chance we will be in Argentina mid - late January. do you have any plans yet? would be cool to meet up somewhere along the way!! We def. want to stay in Rio during Carnival but not for those crazy prices! We would love to share something more reasonable with friendly, easygoing travelers.

hey guys just thought I'd update our plans. We decided actually to go to Recife to party, as we've got a couple of Brazilian friends who recommended the Recife-Olinda celebrations for the more traditional/less commercialised celebration. You don't need to pay to participate in any of the street festivities, which I like 😊 Booked a small apartment with a friend (so there's 3 of us) but could make it a 2-bedroom if there is a solo traveler out there who wants to buddy up! The apartment is on Boa Viagem, the biggest beach in Recife and close to public transit and a large shopping mall. Twenty minutes drive from Recife Airport. We're there from the 2nd-10th March. PM me if you're gonna be in Recife, we'd love to make some party friends 😊 Reply to this

hi all!

just stumbled across this blog and thought i'd drop you's a line.

I've decided to head up to Salvador for Carnival 2011 but am getting quite nervous about the accomodation situation.... from reading many other posts on various forums the general concensus is that mid-nov is very late to be booking accomodation for canraval... can anyone confirm / deny this?

I'm hoping to book something as soon as possible, and I'm prepared to pay the $700 for a dorm bed for 7 nights... unless there are any more apartment offers available for a single (male) traveller, 27 yrs old from Dublin, Ireland?! 😊

if there is, please drop me a line and I can give you all the info you need about me!

cheers! Reply to this

Hi,

we are 2 girls travelling to colombia & brazil early next year, hoping to be in salvador for carnaval but agree that >$100 per night for a hostel is a bit ridiculous.

I know we are very last minute but we would be happy to share an apartment with some fun, easy going people.

Id be happy to look into accomodation if anyone is interested, let me know.

Hey everybody!

I'm a 27yr old Vancouverite (Canada) and I'm wanting to do Carnival in Salvador but haven't had much luck finding places... I'm hoping to share some accommodation with some cool people from Mar. 3rd or 4th to Mar. 10th roughly to try to save some $$$.

If you're looking to do the same please shoot me a line and let's make it happen!

Cheers!

-Jay
