So basically me and 3 mates are planning a trip to the region through September. Were hoping to rent/buy some bikes and just ride around. The original idea was to go to Hanoi, rent a bike then drive to Bangkok basically. However, firstly were trying to do it cheap as possible, and flights to bangkok return are much cheaper. Also, ive heard quite a few reports about how difficult it is to bring a bike from one country to another. Is there a way we could still do this trip, or are we going to have to make some concessions?

The current idea is to fly to bangkok, then get a cheap flight to hanoi, rent a bike and go down through vietnam, then sell the bikes in ho chi min and continue by bus etc to thailand. what are your thoughts? Reply to this

Here is a link to another guy who has a bike for sale and has done some riding in Vietnam.
I think the company he had had a "buyback" deal too!

Good luck.

You can rent a bike when you arrive in every city/town of Vietnam. The national highway No. 1 goes from Hanoi to HCMC is quite crowded with trucks, buses etc. As for the section from Hue to Da Nang in central Vietnam, you can go up Hai Van pass (high mountains) or go through tunnel. The later one saves time but you cannot see beautiful landscape.

Some tourists also buy a bike in Hanoi then sell in HCMC. It depends on your budget. Reply to this
