Florida to DC Family Roadtrip questions

Looking for ideas on places to see along the way on a trip from the midwest to Florida, then up the east coast to the mid-atlantic.

My family is travelling from the midwest to Florida at the end of June for a National dance competion and we are then headed up I-95 to the mid-atlantic for a week. I am looking for any interesting areas to stop along the way my three children (ages 8-14) would enjoy seeing. We are leaving Orlando and headed up the coast to spend time in Baltimore/DC/Philly to visit with family and sightsee in DC. If there are any spots to stop along the way my kids would like I would appreciate any ideas. My family is very accustomed to long car trips as most of our family lives on the east coast and they have been on family car trips each year to see relatives. I would hate to just drive up the coast and miss any historical or "must see" places along the way, plus it could really break up the long drive.

Also, we will be driving through Nashville, Chattanooga, Atlanta on the way to Florida and if anyone has any thoughts of places to see along the way that would be good to know too. The way to Florida we would not have as much "free-time" since we need to arrive on time, however if there is something we MUST see while driving through I would plan to stop.

Thanks in advance for any advice. Reply to this

The lost sea in TN is kind of neat as is Ruby Falls

and of course the Aquarium in Atlanta is really nice.

Along I-95 if you are up for a overnight stop Charleston, S; Savannah, GA; Wimington, NC; and, Williamsburg, VA are all nice to visit. Reply to this

Your hands would be pretty full going with the great suggestions by Nicole along with being in Orlando, Philadelphia and DC. I'm not sure how much time you have planned, but that trip right there would be pretty jam packed.

If I had limited time and kids this is what I would do.

Lost sea, Rock City and Ruby Falls.
The Aquarium in Atlanta

Disney World
Universal Studios
Sea World

Florida's Space Coast

Myrtle Beach

Carowinds

Do some whitewater rafting.

All the historic sites in Philadelphia - liberty ball, independence hall where the declaration of independence was signed, the museum of art where the classic "Rocky" was filmed, philly cheese steaks.

Plus DC.

Nothing gets more historic in the US than Philadelphia besides maybe Boston.

Take a short detour from I-95 to Savannah, GA for an afternoon on the riverfront. Reply to this
