I will be driving from Mexico to Panama over 6 months starting in June. Does anyone know of a car insurance company for Central American countries?
I will be leaving in June to drive from Mexico to Panama and back. I have found several companies that offer Mexican car insurance. But I was wondering if anyone has got car insurance for any of the Central American countries and what companies did they use? I have looked at overseas car insurance for Americans but most ask for you to be at least 25 and I am only 24. Also does anyone particularly recommend a car insurance for Mexico too?
Thank you
Reply to this For Central America try Nelson Insurance Agency . Don't know if they have age restrictions.
Also look at drivetheamericas DOT com for info. The have a page devoted to insurance.
You can get Mexican insurance online and they will sell you insurance (liability only) at the border of Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. The other countries do not require it and you will NOT be able to buy it at the borders.
A policy for Central America is expensive but probably worth it. I opted to forgo it as I wasn't spending much time in those countries and driving through them was nerve racking enough and the added possibility of any mishap landing you in jail and causing you a slew of legal problems isn't worth it. I would definitely buy a policy if going down there. Plus you will have coverage on your vehicle and not just the other persons.
Are you going solo?
