Advice on Arranging House Sitting from Australia...

I trying to organize a house sit before I leave Australia

Hi I'm Nikka 😊

I've been browsing through this great site for ages & have finally joined! Here's where I need help.

After 12 months of thought & advice from family & friends I've decided to leave everything behind for a while & travel through America. I've been twice before quite a few years back but this time I would like to work, sort of.

To save money and really get to know the lifestyle I would like a medium to longish term house sit position. I've have experience doing this kind of thing in Aust. so I'm not just looking to slob around in someone's home for free.... I'm trying to arrange something before I get to the States, I guess the way Student Exchange Programs work but Google has not been my friend with this one!

Here lis my problem - to register with of the US House Sitting sites I need to live in America or be a citizen, & this is where my problems start, I'm not looking to to immigrate I just want a super experience, being a part of a new community for a while, soaking up the culture & looking after someones home to save on accomm costs.

Can anyone help me out with information, do I need a working visa, (although house sitting is unpaid & not a 'job'), and how can I organize something before I leave? I've looked on craigslist - mostly short term or dodgy looking and would prefer to be with a reputable site that specializes in House Sitting.

Sorry if my post is all over the place it's my first one.

Nikka - when are you going to be in the US? How long are you looking to stay and for how long in each location? Are you looking for a rural or a city setting? I can't help on official sites but can certainly keep my ears open for you here in SW Colorado (the Durango/Dolores area). Feel free to PM me if you'd like to share some details or post them here. Also have an Aussie friend living in Salt Lake City that might be of assitance.
