working at an orphanage in rajasthan, and then making my ways around the country in april.
one camp says head south first for april/may as it will be too hot in june/july.
other side says head north first as the rains will reach the north in june/july and make getting around difficult, if not impossible.
any advice? Reply to this

Skip both and go East. Both heat and rains will take time to reach here, atleast later than North and South. Also, its not as severe. Reply to this

Joanna,

April/May are the hottest and thats all around India, except if you plan to be in hills during that time, which is why I thought of East. You can see the beautiful Shillong and the marvelous chirapunji in Meghalaya, then you can go to Sikkim/Gangtok, for some really breath taking places, for a few days and then from there you can come down to Darjeling. All these places will be really pleasant during this time. Of-course, start with Kolkata as at a later stage it may be really really hot.

Then, May/June you can........actually its very very hot in north and south both from April onwards, unless you are ready to take the heat, I will suggest you to trek the hills. You can travel down to Maklodgunj and Dalhousie in Himachal, again really really superb places. Maklodgunj is where Dalai Lama stays, largely dominated by Tibetans. On the same route you have Kulu/Manali, which is where the Rohtang Pass is.

Towards June end the rainy season starts and then you can visit anywhere, either Delhi/Agra/Jaipur/Pushkar or down south.
