Ideas and suggestions wanted for travelling in thailand in May.

Hello there, i am flying to thailland at the end of April this year and will be spending a month there and as i have committed to nothing other than 3 nights in Bangkok when we arrive i am looking for suggestions of what to do, where to go and the sort of money i\'ll be looking at spending.

I\'d say the only restriction i have will be that we fly out of singapore a month after arriving so will probably be looking to travel south.

But open to any ideas or suggestions.

Hello Rodders 😊

For money, it will cost from 15 Euros per day to travel in Thailand. This is a basic backpackers budget, so of course more is always better.

So, if you are travelling south, then maybe choose an island or two, and also you could spend some time in the Jungle at Khao Sok.

Depending on what you like to do will depend on where you go.Perhaps a bit more information on what you want to see and do will give people some ideas.Do you want to go to Islands? How about trekking?Visit Hill Tribes?.The list is endless. Reply to this

Hey

Go North to Chiang Mai and Pai - perhaps calling at Ayuttaya and Kanchanaburi on the way. Then go back through Bangkok South to some islands, and perhaps a national park for some jungle trekking like Mell suggests.

I wouldn't worry too much about planning it before you go. Just get to Bangkok and take it as it comes. You will meet other people travelling to who will be going somewhere that sounds good, or will have just come from somewhere that sounds good.

If you are partial to a cheeky drink or several then I would look at the upper end of the budgets above. You can travel really cheaply in Thailand but we find that if you add in a couple of nights out a week, the cost adds up.....

Hope this helps

yep , i think ' rat on the road' have got it right - chill and see where that takes you.

the north is a great place to visit and free your mind for some beach living and partying in the south.

if you do fancy the long road to singapour - its easy.
you can take the train/bus through southern thailand stopping at a few islands , then cross the board over to malaysia and get back on the train to Kualar lumpar - great city, and bus/ train it to singapour (around 6 hrs from kl). boom,
wishing you lots fun! Reply to this

If you wanted to go north to say Chiang MI, but eventually end up in Singapore, then consider an Air Asia or Tiger Air flight. Can sometimes be quicker and cheaper than the bus or train, but less romantic as you don't get the views you would on a long journey.

I would agree with this poster, and actually many things in Thailand are a lot more than in your own country.
I'll give an example, I can buy a work shirt for 120 baht in the UK, the same quality shirt here would be at least 350 baht. Bargains can be had, but you must haggle and know the price before shopping.

Don't buy ANY electronic thnigs here, the sales tax is bad, e.g, my 9,000 baht camera (on sale from 12,000 baht), would have cost 7,000 baht in th UK. Ditto my laptop was more expensive. Reply to this
