Some suggestions on where we can see sumo and best places to ski in early April please. :o)
Hey! We are going to Japan on 30th March this year for 7 days and I was hoping to see a sumo tournament/session (not sure what the right word is...?) while we are there. Can anyone tell me where we go to see them in action? Also, we are both very keen to go skiing for a day or two if the snow is still any good around that time? Any tips on the best place/s to go at that time of year and condition of snow around that time would be appreciated. Thanks!
Reply to this I'd love to find out more about the chances of watching a Sumo (match?) as well - I'm landing in Tokyo on April 10th, and leaving for China after visiting Osaka, Kyoto and Hiroshima again from Tokyo on the 28th.
Reply to this There are six tournaments held each year, the next one is in Osaka and begins on March 14th. A tournament always starts on a Sunday and lasts for 15 days. Each tournament has a special name and is always held in the same location. Here's the schedule for the remaining tournaments in 2010 (the January tournament 'Hatsu Basho' was held in Tokyo):
Haru Basho, Osaka: March 14th--28th
Natsu Basho, Tokyo: May 9th--23rd
Nagoya Basho, Nagoya: July 11th--25th
Aki Basho, Tokyo: Sept. 12th--26th
Kyushu Basho, Fukuoka: Nov. 14th--28th
