General East Coast Advice

Hello

Im wanting some ideas/advice from people about the East Coast of the US. Im planning a 3 week trip on the East Coast starting and ending in NYC. In three weeks what can I realistically expect to see? (I will be using megabus or the train I would think).

My ideas at the minute are visiting Boston, Washington, Baltimore, AC, Philli but after that im struggling to think of where else I could visit that would be interesting. Florida seems like it would be a bit too much traveling to make it worth while. My aim is to attend a lot of sporting events when I visit places if this can help anyone suggest anything.

What are hostels like in the US also? Im guessing I will be using them or budget hotels if my friend does travel with me. Any help is appreciated as the trip is in the early stages and could easily change in the near future if better ideas were suggested. Reply to this

Michael----first, the most difficult thing you are going to encounter is your mode of travel. Trains run north and south from New York to Washington on a regular basis each day. Traveling by train in other parts of the country is much less regular. Traveling by bus is certainly not my thing but could be yours. Bus service is available to many larger cities but not small towns. Air travel is still good in the United States but once again not to small towns due to the service and cost. Rentals car travel is your best bet for getting outside the larger cities. Don't know when you are traveling however there are many professional sports teams, baseball, football, hockey, basketball, auto racing, etc in all the large cities. Tickets are expensive and in some cases just about prohibitive. There are many excellent colleges and universities along the east coast and many have outstanding sports activities. I write from Dallas and have not seen a Dallas Cowboy game in years due to the high cost. Boston, Washington, Philadelphia and New York all have a lot to offer from a historical perspective. Suggest you send an e-mail to the tourist office in each city and ask for a map and information. I assume AC means Atlantic City. There you will find casinos and gambling. There are outstanding restaurants in New York, Boston and Baltimore. Going to Florida is going to be a stretch if you spend much tiem in the other areas. Flying will save some time. Miami would be a could place to visit as would Key West. That will require a rental car.In a three week period I don't think you will have ample time to visit any western cities. In the cities you mentioned there are many day trips that could be taken such as Cape Cod and Annapolis.Post any specific questions and I'll try to answer. I lived in the Washington area and have traveled to all those locations many times. Reply to this
