The wife and I will be crossing into Mexico and beyond as far as Peru and are planning our medical kit and looking to expand our knowledge regarding malaria and what ever other nasties we should be prepared for.

My Yellow fever card has expired, do I need one for any country?
Can we buy malaria provolactics and malaria treatments over the counter in most countries?
Can we buy Cipro or other antibiotics over the counter if needed?

What ever info you have and want to share would be good, we have read a few medical travel information web pages but we are looking for some information from people who have been in our regions of intended travel.

Ok so im going on a one year trip around the world starting july 12th, so what i did was go to the public health office in my town and ask them alot of questions ,and got given shots and what not that i would need for my trip. As for Malaria they gave me a prescripition for some pills to take with me wich i will be doing.
What i recomend is the you go to the cdc web sit they should have answers to most of your questions and they will have a map that shows the malaria danger zone .Ok so im not saying this is a good idea or a bad one but i know many people who buy all there drug needs both legal and kinda legal ie malaria stuff while in mexico you dont even need a prescripition im not sure if that is the most safe way to go or not but i know its cheap.
Oh yeah the public healt office might know about if you need to update your yello fever card but i think your best bet is go to the cdc web site i think the address is www.cdc.gov but not sure

good luck
peace out

I am heading to Mexico and then down through to South America (i depart in a about amonth). From what i have read there are at least two type of Malaria tablets, daily and weekly. If you are going for a longer trip you may want the weekly version, however the side affects can be stronger (stronger dosage). Reply to this
