Taos and Four Corners

we will be staying two days in Taos, and then heading to Four Corners and then to the Great Canyon.
Does anybody has suggestions on particular places of interest to suggest ?
Or local events taking place around here. We might change our program to accomodate for dates of events (we already had a ball in Pueblo at the national rodeo championship !)
We are interested in meeting people, discovering american culture, wildlife...

Dear Famille Terrier,

I would like to suggest you consider the town of Durango, Colorado, which will be on your way from the Taos area toward the Four Corners. Durango is an old mining town with a lively Main Street and access to scenic railroad daytrips high into the nearby Rocky Mountains.

Just west of the Four Corners Monument is Monument Valley. The park is actually within the Navajo Nation reservation and is run by the Navajo themselves. The museum includes several detailed displays about Navajo "codetalkers" who were instrumental in the US Pacific war effort during World War II.

The "Grand Canyon" is in my opinion the premier sight to see in the United States. Unfortunately it will be very hot there in the month of August and very crowded as well. However, your time there will be well spent as the Grand Canyon is like nothing I have seen anywhere else in the world. As an exercise, count the number of languages you hear amongst the tourist throngs.

The towns of Flagstaff and Williams are decent stopping points on the way to the canyon.

Regards,

Thanks Tim. We are now in Moab and will go down south to Grand Canyon tomorrow, via Bryce Canyon NP. Reply to this
