How to go from Tikal to Lanquin (Semuc Champey) and then to Chichi? How long does it take?

Hello,

I'm planning my August trip to Mexico-Guatemala.
I'd like to go from Tikal(after the visit of the ruins in the early morning) to Lanquin and sleep there.
Next day I'd like to visit Semuch Champey and finally go to Chichicastenango arriving there in the late afternoon/evening.
I've some questions: I'll move with private mini-van for this route. Is it possible to do my plans or it's too short time?
How long does it take from Tikal to Lanquin? (I know the road dirty)
How long does it take from Lanquin to Chichi?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Ciao,

Not a chance on earth this could be done under the best of circumstances..sorry!
In August you will be planning on coming in the middle of the rainy season..This will slow down your travel considerably.

In good conditions
Tikal to Santa Elena Approx 1 hour
Santa Elena to Rio Dulce approx: 4-5 hours

Ok now from Rio Dulce in August you can bank on 90 minutes for every 35 - 40 miles thereafter to Lanquin..and this is with private vehicle.
If you're not already tired by Rio Dulce then I would suggest you stop over night in El Estor 45 km's from Rio Dulce as the road is not advisable in the rain at night. Better yet stay in Rio Dulce and in the morning on the way to Lanquin stop at Paraiso Falls for refreshing shower under the hot cascades.

Start fresh in the morning from El Estor and you'd be lucky to make Lanquin by lunchtime.. As Far as Lanquin to Chi Chi ...disregard anything you see on the map..The road is absolutely terrible from Coban westward..It is much easier to head through the capital and west towards Quetzaltenango (Xela) and then turn north at Los Ecuentros and travel approx 30 Km's and you're there.

Best 'O' Luck
