Heard mixed reviews on Delhi? is it worth a visit and whats the best area to stay in?

Where is the best place to stay in Kerela? the same for Mumbi? for bars/resturants etc?

Has anyone been on the train? from Goa to Kerela or Mumbi to Goa/Kerela? how long do it take?

thanks Jackie

Hi Jackie,

Delhi is a mix of everything ........

Worth a visit :- depends on what you are wanting..aiming at ??

Generally foreigners get hassled by crowd,humidity.....taxi drivers....agents etc.....

Staying :- Generally backpapckers stay in Paharganj ..because its economical ..u can try other places too .....there is one YMCA hostel near Cannaught place I suggest please try that......

If you can try a bed and breakfast scheme that would be better than Paharganj......

Train journey ....I would suggest if u travel by train please take an 2 AC or 1 AC ticket as that would not cause much hassles to you...u can check out the indian railways website.......

Please also note :- India is warm,humid....nowdays.........................so plan your trip accordingly......

regards,
Vaibhav

Hi Jackie,
First time travelling to Kerala? try staying in Cochin. It is well connected by rail/air, and if you have time, can plan short journeys from Cochin.

Try south Mumbai for a mix of everything (Colaba/Fort area).

Trains from Mumbai to Goa take about 12 hours, and to Kerala another 12 (total 24 hrs). But this route has a notoriety of getting blocked in the monsoon (Jun--Aug), just enquire.

Goa and Kerala both will be experiencing monsoon showers right until September.

Also, you have to reserve your seats on the train prior when travelling in India well in advance (not like we have in the UK), or the trains might be booked full.

Hello Jackie 😊

Mumbai is an easier city to be in than Delhi. It is cleaner and there is a lot less harassment. Probably the same for Kerala and Goa, judging by what I have heard about them. I have not been in Kerala or Goa.

I receommend that you stay in the Bentley Guesthouse in Colaba, Mumbai. As well as being in the heart of most of what the tourist likes to see, it has an excellent reputation for being good as well as good value. Book in advance, because it is often full.

When you are in Mumbai, be sure to hang out at the famous Cafe Leopald. It is a favourite expats, film people and backpackers haunt. Just about everybody who visits Mumbai goes there.

If the front of the Taj Mahal Intercontenintal hotel is open again, I recommend you go in and up the stairs. There you can have tea or a drink with a beautiful view of the bay.

You can buy train tickets in advance on the internet from the Indian train company. Here is the link. irctc.co.in

By the way, if you do go to Delhi you can take a daytrip to Agra if you want. The train times are convenient for it. I recommend the Shanti Lodge rooftop restaurant in Agra. It has a fantastic view of the Taj Mahal.

well, as far as accommodation goes, it depends on your budget, but.........

if you want the absolute best area to stay in, the oberoi hotel and resort in delhi is one of the most exclusive in india. it is also close to an UNESCO world heritage site (humayun's tomb)... not too often you get unesco, a swanky hotel, and have it be all in the CAPITAL.

here are some top places along the route. again, depends on your budget, but if you want the top stuff........

I was in Delhi couple of months ago. Do visit my Delhi blog. In a day I could cover most of the tourist things. I stayed at Huns Plaza in Connought Place. The rate was Rs 6000 for a double room. Breakfast was included. I took the Shatabdi Express that leaves Delhi at 6AM and reached Agra at 8AM. I went up to Gwalior and did Agra on my way back. Reply to this
