Upper MustangTrek

Mustang is one of the few places in the Himalayan region that has been able to retain its traditional Tibetan culture unmolested… authentic Tibetan culture now survives only in exile and a few places like Mustang, which have had long historical and cultural ties with Tibet.

At present Mustang is a very popular trekking region in Nepal. The Home Ministry of Nepal announced the Opening of the restricted areas in October 1991. There is also strict control in obtaining a special permit from the Department of Immigration to protect their tradition from outside influence as well as to protect their environment. According to government rule, liaison officers were accompanied with the trekking groups in previous time but now there are no necessary to have them. The region of the Tibetan influence, Kaligandaki, from the Tibetan border south to Kagbeni is generally referred to as " Upper Mustang". The trek to Lo Manthang is through an almost tree-less barren landscape, a steep rocky trail up and down hill and panoramic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and several other peaks make your trek memorable. The Monasteries in this areas are most Gelukpa, Shakyapa and Nyingmapa sect. There are also 2 monastery of Bonpo religion who were in Tibet before the Buddhism enter. I am planing to give you the detail information of this trek after you arrive in Nepal. Reply to this
