Looking for any one who has been up there......

My wife and I are looking to travel from lima to northern peru-trujillo, pacasmayo-by bus. I am going to travel with Cruz del Sur bus company. As far as places to stay i was going to rely on my lonely planet guide. I was hoping that someone has been up there and can give me an idea of what to expect. For instance, are there places where it is unsafe for my wife to be alone on the beach? I realize I need to be careful, particularly in the city, but does anyone out there have any experiences they would like to share? I was kinda hoping the coast would be a little more laid back but you never know.

I returned from that area last february. I was new to the area and travelled alone. At no time did I feel in the least bit threatened or worried about my well being. I never stayed in an expensive hostal and did see some of the less well of areas and had a blast.
I have found the peruvian people to be the friendliest and most helpfull people I have had the pleasure to meet. Reply to this

The main beaches in Northern Peru are at Huanchaco (Trujillo) and Mancora. From Huanchaco you can take a tour to the longest wave in the world but even on the main beach are some nice long rides to be enjoyed.Mancora is a party town and only really has 1 point break that can get a bit crowded ,by Sth American standards.Having said this ,sitting out there at sunset is almost a spiritual experience.
About your wifes safety, I'm a single male but I met many girls travelling alone and heard no bad stories.Peruvians tend to be a very respectful people.I love Peru.Enjoy Reply to this

Cruz del Sur its ok or Oltursa is another company that offers a very good service.

There are good people and bad people like in any other country and you have to be careful anywhere you go. Sometimes tourists are too trusty to the point of being dumb, just keep your eyes open and you will be ok.
Here in Peru most people are nice and like to help. In the north, people are very friendly and the food is great: if you can taste the lobster or the crab or cebiche made from the fish "Ojo de uva" exquisit!

Beaches are nice Huanchaco, Mancora (Vichayito), Punta Sal (Tumbes) there are lots of tourist, surfers, people from the area, I have been there in past and I had a very good time.

Ittsa is another company which offers a good service too.
If u arrived trujillo at morning, u can visit the city , also chanchan .
If u have more time, u could visit huacas del sol y la luna.
U cant do it both same day.
Trujillo is a small and calm city but Kass, is right, u must be careful anywhere you go.
