i also been told that there are places to stay for 2 pound a night
It is possible to find places for that price. I stayed in a bunch of them last 2 times I was in Thailand. Have a look in the Lonely Planet guides accomodation sections and you will see what is available and what it costs. Add on a little to each price because the prices quoted are sometimes a few years old.
how much u think would be a reasonable amount of munit to take?
I was there two years ago with my daughter. We spend 500 Euros between us for a month.

Bear in mind that the exchange rate has changed alot over the last year or so. When we first went to Thailand in 2006 it was 70 baht to the pound, and we were staying in places that cost about 350 baht. At that time, that was 5 quid. Now its about 50 baht to the pound, so that 350 baht place is now 7 quid.
We found that this had created a noticeable difference in the price of travelling.

I have just been participating in another forum on exactly this same subject, the latest information was that in Pattaya you can find rooms with fans for 200-250thb/night, not sure I would want to stay there though !!.
Up in Chiang Mai where I live, you can find good rooms from 350thb/night upwards, food up here is also cheaper than the Southern beaches !!.
And yes, I agree with the last posters comments, the GBP£ has suffered terribly over the last couple of years, so EVERYTHING is now much more expensive comparatively than it was a short while ago - but still beats living in the UK !!.

Kevin
