Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone could tell me the costs of travelling for 3 months in south america (not including the cost of flights to and from the continent). my itinerary is :
Colombia to Chile, taking in Equador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina. will want to do all the hot spots, maybe a trip to patagonia depending.
Can anyone advise on the total cost?
thanks a lot! Reply to this

I spent 6months travelling Peru ,Bolivia ,Paraguay ,Uraguay ,Argentina and Chile. This cost me around US$10 000 [not including airfares].I like to have a private room with cable TV so if you are staying in dormtories at Bakpakers it would be alot cheaper.I notice Uraguay is not on your list, its well worth the boat trip over ,from Buenos Aires, even if only for a few days. They are as friendly as Peruvians n Bolivians but are very well educated.Great country! And Patagonia is well worth the trip.Ushuaia is one of the most incedible places I've seen and the Moreno Glacier ,near Calafate ,is another must

Oh and 1 of Peru's best kept secrets is the trip to Iquitos.Iquitos is the biggest city on earth that is not accessable by road.Half a million people in the middle of the jungle.Civa bus lines will take you from Lima to Moyabamba ,then Colectivo [sort of a shared taxi] ,through the jungle, to Tarapoto and same to Yurimaguas. In Yurimaguas you get a local Ferry 3days up the Maranon and Amazon rivers to Iquitos.Unbelievable trip. After 2nights in a hammock I got a nice hotel and the flight back to Lima cost US$105.Apart from the hotel n flight the whole 10day adventure was cheaper than a day trip from Cuzco to Machu Picchu. It is also possible to get another ferry from Iquitos to Colombia and Brazil [and maybe Bolivia].
Hope I've been of some help and feel free to message me if you have any questions.I will help if I can. Reply to this

It was a couple of years ago now but I'm sure it was around US$200 for the whole trip. As I said before this doesn't include my hotel in Iquitos or my airfare back to Lima. Please check with authorities before going as Iquitos was experiencing a Denge Fever outbreak recently. Reply to this

My buddy and I are landing in Quito, Ecuador Oct 29th. We currently have an exact end date of our trip but were thinking around dec 15th-20th. Our only must do on our list is hitting up Machu Piccu and some surf towns in Ecuador and Peru. We hope to get down to Patagonia and end in Buenos Aires. Does anyone have some suggestions on must see cities/attractions? We plan to stay out of Columbia, Venezuela, and Brasil. Reply to this Reply to this
