is it feasible to kayak the sea of cortez for the from San Felipe to Cabo San Lucas?
Has anyone kayaked the entire length of the baja peninsula, or does anyone have any advice? I'm trying to gather info if it is at all feasible or practical.
Reply to this I have not kayaked the ENTIRE baja but I have done quite a few excursions over the years. Mostly in the Sea of Cortez, and my Pacific side adventures were at Magdalena Bay and near Guerro Negro...both prime grey whale breeding/birthing areas. The two seas are extreme opposites of each other and style of kayaking can vary.
I would recommend reading Sea Kayaking in Baja by Andromeda Romano-Lax. Or Dave Eckharts Guide to Baja Sea Kayaking to get a better idea about what you are up against.
It is by far the most spectacular and diverse eco-system in the world and you will be knocked off your socks.
Keep in mind the Baja is over 1000kms long and you may consider having a vehicle to ferry you and your equipment from site to site instead of trying to circumnavigate the entire Baja by boat.

Reply to this I Kayaked 85 mile of baja from Ganzaga (spelling?) to LA bay. This segment is not traveled much and now I know why. Great paddle and you are alone. The problem is there are very few places to take out. We paddled 27miles one day and 17 the next.
Have fun,
J
