Hi all,
We're planning a 6 month RTW jaunt for 2010 and were initially looking at SE Asia, Oz and NZ before heading home.
But as we've got to fly over the Americas on the way back anyway, it would seem rude not to stop somewhere on the way, and the more i look at S.America the more enticing it becomes ... so my questions is, is it possible to do a decent amount of S.America in a month? We'd have to fly in and out of B.Aires ...
Primarily looking at Argentina (B.Aires, Iguaza Falls), Bolivia (salt flats), Peru (Machu Pichu!) ...
As S.America is such a massive place, is there an equivalent of AirAsia to enable us to fly around cheaply?
Thank you!
Reply to this There are no budget airlines in SA really. Sometimes you get good fares off-peak. Other than an air pass (LAN has one), you might be able to pick up a cheap fare in country if you want to chance it. You can use the long distance buses in Argentina as they are very good and it would offer an alternative to a flight to Iguazu. Lot of hours though. Look at the air pass and see what it would cost you to get to the destinations you want. Yes, you can do it in a month. Just keep the itinerary realistic and don't try to cram too much in. The places you mention are good high spots.
Reply to this Thanks, i've looked into a LAN Air Pass, and although it's expensive it's much cheaper than buying flights individually ... the problem being that you have to buy at least three flights.
We've fleshed out our plans a bit now and it looks like we'll be arriving into Santiago in April and leaving 5 weeks later from either Lima or Rio (any recommendations anyone???).
Hoping to fit in Santiago, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca, La Paz, Uyuni, BA, Iguaza, and Rio into the 5 weeks we've got ... does this sound like too much or is it do-able?? Anyone's advice would be much appreciated!
