Rainy Season

What to expect during rainy season.

Hey All-

I am planning a trip to Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand in late June and July. I am aware that this is considered the rainy season. I'm not concerned with a couple hours of rain here and there, but really don't want to deal with day after day of torrential down pours.

Have any of you visited these areas during these months? What exactly can I expect during this "rainy season"? Is is common to experience full days of rain? Day after day?

Where there things that rain prevented you from doing during your travels?

Any light you can shed on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance for your Help-

The rainy season is more like torrential downpours for about an hour, usually in the evening. Days of rain are rare, although obviously, they do happen, like everywhere. It's not the type of monsoon you see in India though, where it rains all day.

When it rains, it really rains, buckets come from the sky and the roads flood. Then it stops and the water seeps away. The trick is to make sure you are inside, or at least in a bar, when it comes, so you can sit and watch it and wait until it stops.

June and July is not the height of the rainy season, at least in Thailand, so it shouldn't be too bad.

The rainy season in the South of Thailand changes. It's a different time of year on the Andaman coast than on the Gulf coast. If I remember rightly, the rainy season on the Gulf coast starts in around September, so you should be fine on that side when you are going.

Have a good time.

rainy season is hottest time of year so when it does rain you may appreciate the break from the heat! it can b cool sometimes to be in a bar when it rains as everyone ususlly bails into th bars to escape the rain. it may not rain so much as you would think in the ' rainy season ' although it may affect some plans in certain areas particulary in laos and cambodia especially if your going off the beaten path as roads flood. also may effect travel by boat. there wont be so many tourists about in the rainy season, can be a good thing sometimes and prices are reduced in certain places. the tonel sap river often floods in phnom penh although work is been don along th riverside at th momnt to prevent this but thats usually around septrmber. you should be fine in june and july with the odd hiccup to be expected here or there. i quite like the rainy season although sometims it feels not right to be on a perfect paradise beach with grey skies hanging over you! i dont mind it although im irish so im used to rain!
