Hi i'm a uni student and i'm trying to plan my next trip for around february next year. I'm going to do a volunteer placement for maybe 2 weeks teaching in a rural area in either bali or thailand and then i want to do some travelling with friends after, maybe for another 2 weeks or so.
Once i meet my friends, we'd probably head to Kuta area if it was Bali or Phuket/Islands for Thailand.
I'm wondering which country would be better from people who have been to both. Cost wise as well as more things to do and the nightlife etc. We'd want to stay in NICE accom but not over the top. something with a good pool scene and reasonbly nice rooms etc will do us.
I know alot of young people go to both countries which means they are probably both good but i need to decide one or the other!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks heaps!
Reply to this Bali! It's also cheaper... Although might be more expensive to fly there...
Check my blog on Bali...
Reply to this Do you have a choice of Indonesia or Thailand or must you go to Bali and then you want a second place to visit?
My vote is for Thailand if you have a choice of countries to practice teaching at. I have been to both but my Bali/Indonesia time was several years ago.
I think it will be easier to get a discounted flight to Bangkok than Denpasar.
Thailand is very popular with backpackers and the prices are quite reasonable. If Phuket is your only choice for a short trip to Thailand then stay in the Indonesia area. Phuket is okay, lots of nightlife in the Patong area but it is a beach area if that is all you want. My preference is to see other places in Thailand other than beaches, but that is an old farts point of view.
Thailand can be quite reasonably priced, lots of party choices in Bangkok and Pattaya besides Phuket. Have a nice trip.
Reply to this I love thailand and the thai people and would recommend thailand since once you are there you can visit the beautiful country too which has a rich culture and a beautiful country.
Reply to this If you compare Thailand to only Bali it's not fair. Bali is an amazing place, but quite small...while with Thailand, you have a lot more choices to do different things.
As an Island, Bali get my vote....but if you have 2 weeks to tour, you may prefer the diversity of Thailand.
To Hal answer, AirAsia fly between Bangkok and Thailand for less than 200usd return...obviously that depends the day you decide to fly.
