Guesthouses & Homestays on route 8 & 13in Laos

Hi there, a question about route 8 and 13 once over the border from Vietnam into Laos. I am planning on cycling those roads from Lak Sao to Vietiane but am worried I will have problems finding a hostel, homestay or hotel, somewhere to sleep overnight. I would be seriously grateful for any tips you may have about where I can stay on route 8 and 13...should I take a tent just in case?

Is route 13 busy with traffic??
