What to do in Thailand?

I have two days in Bangkok and 5 days in Koh Samui coming up. I have flight and hotels booked...now I need to figure out what to do while I'm there.

All of a sudden I realized that I am leaving for Thailand in two weeks - my first overseas trip and I'll be traveling alone! I have everything planned...except for what to do. I'm open to any suggestions on great ways to spend time in both Bangkok and Koh Samui.

Also, I've heard tale of a zoo in Bangkok wherein you are allowed to feed tiger cubs? Is this true? Where is it located? How much does it cost?

Thanks!

Sera,
In BKK, you have several options. You can visit the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Jim Thompson House, Wat Arun (pretty standard places for visitors) all which are quite nice. You can take a riverboat tour of the city, wander down soi's checking out the more non-touristy areas, or head to the shopping center such as MBI or Siam Center.
I'm not familiar w/ the BKK Zoo but have heard through others that it is fairly dismal compared to most zoos.

On Samui, you have options galore as well. You can go on an elephant trek,go to a coconut farm, visit Big Buddha, go to the several different animal exhibits like the monkey center and the reptile center. We opted for the Samui aquarium (500 - 900 b to get in)which was unlike any other aquarium we had been too. The displays were distinctly Thai in nature (lacking huge dollars for the glitz that most tourists are accustomed to) and the animals in captivity were kept in less than ideal enclosures. As well, you could pose w/ full grown tigers for 500 B and feed cubs for 1000B.

Being close to Koh Pha Ngan (maybe a full, or half, or quater moon party), Ko Tao and Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park, you can get in diving or snorkeling and you have any kind of beach you could want to sit back and enjoy the Sun, Sand and Surf.

And of course you can people watch or rent a scooter and cruise around the island.

YMMV

Hello Sera 😊

Be sure to visit Jim Thompson's house. Also it has a nice restaurant in the gardens, so well worth hanging around for lunch or a couple of coffees.

And riding up and down the river passanger boat is a good way to watch life by the river and there is a nice breeze on it to keep you cool during those hot days in Bangkok.

I went to the Bangkok Zoo a couple of years back and there certainly was'nt any Tiger cubs to be hand fed.Don't even remember seeing a Tiger. You can go to the Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi and see Tigers and get you're photo taken etc. There's an extensive report on it in the Asia section so you can make you're own mind up if you want to go.You would be able to find a day trip to the Temple from Bangkok;you're hotel or travel agent would be able to arrange it.
As Chocolatemonkee says there's plenty to see in Bangkok and Ii you're there on the weekend Chatuchuk market is worth a look. Reply to this

Hi all! Thanks so much, this is a huge help. Good to know about the Bangkok Zoo, I had been planning on spending quite a bit of time there and I think I might skip it now.

While in BKK I'm staying on New Petchburi Road (Amari Atrium)...how far away is that from stuff to do? Is it walkable at all? Reply to this

Don't think any of it is walkable from New Petchburi road.May be closer to the Sky Train or Subway so you can always catch one of them. The Subway will take you to Hualamphong railway station and it's not far from there to the King'Palace,Wat Pho' the river and Wat Arun.Still not walkable though but a Tuk Tuk will take you.The Subway and Skytrain also go to Chatuchuk market. Thailand is in SUMMER. So, sea it's pretty good to go travel sea in thailand .Such as Pattya, Hua-hin, Samui etc.

About in BKK you must go to shopping at Jatujak Market (It's open on Saturday and Sunday Only!!). The zoo in BKK called "Khao-Din". I'm not sure that you can feed tiger cubs?? , Or u can goto Under Water World at Siam Paragon.

Let's me suggest my blogspot ..

I'm trying to collect many way to travel in Thailand. I think it's can guide you where to travel in Thailand.
