New Visa Requirements for the US

If you are eligible for the US Visa Waiver Program, you will need to read this.

From Monday 12 January 2009, if you are eligble for the US Visa Waiver Program, there is a new process you must follow.

You must now apply for an authorisation prior to entering the country. This is completed at the Department of Homeland Security's Electronic System for Travel Authorization website. This must be completed 72 hours prior to your arrival at which time you will (hopefully) receive an Application Number that is subsequently approved and will allow you entry into the US. If you do not have a valid Application Number prior to boarding the aircraft for the US, the talk is that you will not be able to board the plane. Reply to this

Does anyone know if this also affects passengers in Transit?

Something similar was happening before this date - the airlines automatically sent an online form to complete with ticket purchase - anyway seems like another annoying hurdle to jump through - I for one hope that the EU will be subjecting US citizens to equal treatment - like Brazil does.
