15 years ago, January 9th 2009 No: 1 Msg: #59424
Hi,

So i was wondering what the final price should be for things in vietnam, specifically if I am looking at booking tours. They often suggest that the price is negotiable online but just how much is the question. I am not asking about sacrificing quality of service, just in what leeqay i have in negotiations

Hi David!
The tour price is depend on length of day tour, but normally it takes $80 to $90/day included transfer, meal, tour guide, hotel accommodation.... package price. I think I can recommend you a reliable tourist company if you need

You can get the low tour price base on hotel 3* or 2* hotels and number of participants (there's low price in numbers). For the longhaul trip, you can use public transportation for transfer from place to place this way also a good chance to witness daylife of native Reply to this

Tours in Viet Nam is surprisingly cheap. Halong bay, Mekong Delta, Cu Chi in HCMC, and 4 islands tour in Nha Trang are the only 4 tours you should take, instead of do it indepedently.

Halong bay tour is the one you should care about. Go with a reputable company to avoid the bad experience. Prices is varied from about $60 to $100 for 3d/2n including pick-up and all-inclusise. Don't take the cheapest offers, usually under $50. I don't hear people bargain for tour because the price is already dirt cheap.
The other tours are even cheaper, and you don't have to worry about negociation or which tour company.

To save you money, don't book your tours now until you are in VN, and go there to book in person or through your friendly guesthouse. Reply to this

Try to avoid booking through Sinh cafe. Best bet is tour desk at your hotel. Travel tip. you can easily buy Lonely Planet Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, China books and Phrasebooks for about US $3 (yes three dollars-if you bargain even less eg 40,000 Vietnam Dong) in District one in Saigon and all other tourist centres.Just walk along the street I the tourist strips…if you don’t stumble over their sidewalk stalls they will be chasing you with boxes of books for sale anyway! Katz in regard to negotiating yes at 80 you should be able to get them down to 50 or 60. In fact internationally the VN gov is doing a promotion with participating tourist groups of discounts of at least 30%.
You are in the box seat at the moment in Vietnam. Tourism here is sick and very very open to deals...Bargain hard because if you don't ...THEY WILL! Reply to this

In relation to the locaL ECONOMY TOURS ARE EXPENSIVE. Always remember the average salary is about $60 per day and for most people in the tourist business $50 per day. In relation to overheads the prices are inflated so don't feel bad about bargaining. I disagree with Pho about not bargaining...maybe he/she has a vested interest in a tour company.NOW IS THE PERFECT TIME TO BARGAIN. Reply to this

Hum.....$30-35 a hotel room? $20 for a short distance on a bus?

That seems rather steep.

Has anyone found it cheaper to reserve hotels in advance, or is it the same price and just more convenient?

Hey! I went to Vietnam for 2 weeks and spent £220 for hotels, visits, food, souvenirs and 2 tours BUT I ate mainly in street restaurants (25000 Dong/meal= £1) It is not for everyone and we have seen very few tourist do the same thing but it is good enough. We stayed in cheap hotels- this one in HCM wasn't great but it was cheap 14USD for 2 people/night!! http://www.vietnamtourism.com/phoenix74hotel/. This one in Hanoi was great http://sunshinehotel.com.vn/classic1hotel/index.htm for 30USD for 2 people/night breakfast included, most recommended. You can negociate everything in Vietnam but tours. Wouldn't pay too much for them though. We went onto 2 extra tours (Sapa and Halong) that were booked long in advance with Buffalo Tours, we paid stacks of money for them and weren't that happy or impressed with the quality of the service. The guides were lazy and too laid back. We had to fish for infos the whole time. The 2 tours we did in HCM were dead cheap and much better. The guides were great and gave 100%. The organisation and staff were very good : check out http://www.tropictourvietnam.com/ Most recommended. We did the Mekong and Cu chi tunnels tours. Wait till you are over there to book. No need to book in advance. Reply to this

I found even tours were negotiable. When on the Halong bay tour the prices people paid for exactly the same tour varies by hundreds of thousand of Dong.......... Reply to this
