Help! Im in Ecuador at the moment and am hoping to head up North to explore some of Columbia too.
I have accommodation booked for carnival in Salvador, so need to be there by the 19th Feb! Does anyone know the best way to get from Columbia to Salvador?? Or am I going to have to skip Columbia altogether (which I really dont want to do) and go from Ecuador? If so..HOW!!??
As cheaply as possible would be great, but due to time constraints and am also willing to fly. Anyone with advice mucho appreciato!
Reply to this You should not miss Colombia for sure!!! (I don't say that only because I am Colombian).
On route from Ecuador you can stop in Pasto (laguna de la Cocha and Volcan Galeras), Popayan (beautiful colonial town), San Agustin & Tierradentro (ancient archaeological sites), Cali (party and salsa capital of Colombia), Zona Cafetera (lovely coffee growing villages and mountains).
From Bogota I would suggest getting a flight to Leticia (on the Amazon river) from there you could get a boat to Manaus (about 1 week slow freight ship along the Amazon)... and you are almost there! just another 2600km as the crow flies. I guess you will need another flight from Manaus to Brasilia or Salvador to get there.
You should have enough time for this if you get going soon... I don´t know how you would do it directly from Ecuador, but it is definitely a long way across the amazon, so you will probably need some flights.
If you have more time in Colombia, head up to Boyaca (Villa de Leyva) and Santander (Barichara and San Gil)... north of Bogota, and maybe even to Parque Tayrona (near Santa Marta on the caribbean coast) and then to Cartagena... but that is probably a long shot. Why do you want to go to Salvador???.... just stay at the Barranquilla Carnival (which I think is also at the end of February).
Anyway... hope it helped a bit!
