Fellow travelers,

Sawadee Kap and Happy New Year. I think this is a hard questions but maybe you can help me out. Are there buses that goes from Chiang Mai to Udon Thani (North to North East)? I do not want to have to double back to BKK before heading off to Udon. Didn't see a train route for this at all. Just a big "V" from the cities with BKK being the connection point.

Flying is my last option but rather not do it, trying to really explore the country side. Will be my 3rd time in Thailand and my thai is pretty decent and commuting via bus/train will help me learn more.

Also where in Udon can I extend my Visa since its only good for 15 days coming back on the Friendship Bridge to Laos?

Hi Keo.Don't know about the buses from Chiag Mai to Udon but I'd say there are.Perhaps only a couple a day. You'd have to find out from the Bus station or travel agent. You certainly would'nt have to go back to BKK as there are definately buses from Phitsanalok to Udon. Can also catch the train from Chiag Mai to Phitsanalok.Another alternative is catch the train from Chiag Mai to Ayutthaya and then the train from there to Udon Reply to this
