I'm traveling to India for the first time on Monday and am looking for the best way to get from the Mumbai airport to my hotel in the city.
On Monday I'm leaving for a three week trip to India with my brother. We'll be arriving on Tuesday night at 8:45pm if our flight is on time. This will be our first time in India, and after a 15 hour flight I don't know how much stress I'll want to deal with, so I arranged to have our hotel pick us up at the airport. The fee of 850 rs seems awfully expensive though (it's as much as a night in the hotel) and we're on a tight budget. My guide book says there are prepaid taxis (avoid the hassle of haggling for a fare) that are a lot cheaper. Have any of you taken these? Will they be available at night, especially if our flight gets in late? How much do they cost? Thanks a lot for your help!

Reply to this You will get prepaid taxis outside Mumbai Airport round the clock. I don't know the rates , but getting non pre-paid taxi is definitely cheaper outside Airport. It will be on taxi meter basis and whatever appears on taxi meter that should be checked with govt.'s official rate card which each taxi will have. It should cost around max. 400 Indian Rs. From International Airport terminal at Sahar, Andheri (East ) to CST ( or Victoria Terminus ) central station is around 25 Km max. One Kilometer in taxi meter is equivalent of Rs. 14. So, bill should not shoot more than 400/- with your luggage tip of Rs. 20.
Reply to this Just know that how much far your hotel from the Mumbai airport. If it is neat then you will go by auto rickshaws and if it is more than 8 km far then hiring cab from Mumbai airport <snip> is best option.

Reply to this The best and safest way is to get a prepaid taxi that is available outside Mumbai Airport round the clock. Do not <b>travel</b> on any other taxis as they might cost you more and might not be safe. Make sure to check the rates first on the rate cards provided by the Indian Government and never give your payment slips to the driver unless you reach your desired destination.
Hope this helps and I also suggest you never travel without your travel insurance plan. <snip>

Reply to this You haven't mention about your hotel name. There are a lot of nice and luxuries hotels available near the airport. Most of them between 1-3 km range. If you go with prepaid taxi it will take highest Rs. 50.
