Can anyone tell me approximately how long it takes to drive from Cancun to Izamal?

We are also interested in going from Valladolid to Tulum via Coba; about how long would that take? Reply to this

I have done this. Plan it as a one day or overnight trip. From Cancun to Izamal is about 4 hours. You can overnight there or in Valladolid, both have nice places to stay in town and within walking distance to food, drinks, shopping and the zocalo. Vallodolid to Tulum via Coba plan roughly another 4 hours. It can be done in one day, but I think maybe better to take your time and tour the convent and ruins in Izamal, swim the cenote in Valladolid. Always better to take your time and be able to enjoy what you experience rather than rush through like a tourist simply checking off items on an itinerary. Reply to this

I think you may be thinking of another Valladolid. Traveling south from Valladolid, through Coba to Tulum only takes about 50 minutes. The road is very good and goes through a few picturesque villages. We live in Playa del Carmen and it is faster for us to go through Tulum to get to Valladolid than to take the cuota out of Cancun. If you meant travel time from Izamal to Tulum, then 4 hours is about right. Reply to this

I agree with Michele, the trip can certainly be done much quicker. However, if you are unfamiliar with the area and Mexican roadways, want to take your time and see some sites, I would still definately plan for at least 4 hours from Cancun to Izamal. I assume from Izamal you were planning to return to the coast via a drive through Valladolid and on to Tulum; again I would plan at least four hours. Of course if you are familiar with the area and roads here, speak and read some Spanish, and do not intend this as a leisurely trip for seeing the sites, definately it can be done quicker.
