Sibu is a typical ordinary Malaysian town in Sarawak. As of today, it stands fourth in its' ranking after Kuching, Miri and Bintulu. Sibu is known for the following:
1. mascots of swan
2. business especially trading and timber
3. loud, public events weekly at night and from time to time
4. kampua mee which is noodle dry cooked with pork oil and pork itself
5. mee sua which is also noodle "long life" that tend to be long stranded
and cooked in soup with chicken and mushroom and is thought to
prolong one's life
6. kompia which is dry hard bun which can be eaten as it is or have some
pork sandwiched between the cut layers
7. chinese foochows
8. latest car models
9. scattered housing areas
10. latest designs of buildings here and there

You can get to Sibu by MAS (Malaysian Airline System) and Air Asia the budget carrier. Air Asia has got an internet booking system and so it saves your worries about where to get your ticket. Just type Air Asia into the search engine's box. Then, if you wish to know about MAS, just type MAS into the box. The airport which is equipped with basic facilities, is a distance away from the centre of the town.

Sibu is well connected by roads and so you can get to most places from here. There are long distance buses available with its' terminal at Pedada Road. Local buses are available from the terminal near the wharf.

As Sibu is situated to the river, you find express boats coming and going. You can go from Kuching to Sibu using the express boat or if you wish to see the Pelagus rapids, you can go from Sibu to Kapit then change the express boat which will take you to Belaga via the rapids. Kapit is a small town and Belaga is a village town.

There are a lot of taxis here.

Accomodation wise, you find local hotels with four star status example the Kingwood hotel near the river, the Tanah Mas hotel near the wet market, the Premier hotel in the middle of the town, the Paramount hotel near the Malay village, the up and coming RHB related hotel next to the business centre and scattered fewer stars hotels. There are also no star hotels. Four star hotel will cost you something in the range of near US 50 per night and then the rates will go lower as the stars get fewer.

Food is cheaper outside the hotel if you have that culinary adventure's spirit. Spiritual resources is in abundance and so there is no worry.

When you arrive in Sarawak, make a stop in Sibu for a day before proceeding to other cities, towns or villages. Sarawak is best known for its' eco tourism as the attraction of nature is still prominent here.

Selamat datang ke Sibu !
