Hello Back2thefareast 😊

I havent been to Vietnam yet but the following is sure tempting me to go. Apparently this island is so remote that it does not have phones or electiricity. It does however have backpackers.

Xin Chao island in Vietnam

Hi Back 2,

Tet festival in Vietnam during 25-29 January'09. And you will pay extra for guide (30%), transfer and meals (about 15%).
About 4-6 weeks traveling, you can have trip - Vietnam (3-4 weeks), Cambodia (7-10 days) , Laos (7-10days).
And during 20 December till end January is peak-season, you shoul reserve everything before travelling.

Have nice trip.

Hi, \
Tet festival is the most special occasion in Vietnam, all of country is out of work, except the people who work in service industry, but very less. each area has a private custom, habit and the difference style to welcome the Tet festival. You'd arrange your plan for some Tet festival days you are in Vietnam.

Hi backtothefareast,

I would suggest starting in Hanoi and gradually work down to HCMC... Whilst up North go to places like Sapa... stay on a homestay with tribal villagers... Tram tom pass... Cat Cat etc...

On your way dowm visit places like Mai Chau... Ninh Binh... Tam Coc... Danang... Hoi An, Nha Trang then onto HCMC, check out the Mekong Delta...

I havent decribed these places on purpose, want you to experience that... but if you get Lonely Planets Vietnam it will tell you all you need to know...

Hope this helps and enjoy you time there, Vietnam is beautiful...

Hey there I would agree with Ray-Om and say that 6 weeks may be more than enough time. I travelled from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh in about 2 weeks and I saw all that I wanted to see and more, although I would probably recommend 3 weeks if you like to take your time. Plus I dont know if you've been to places like Cambodia, Laos or Thailand but I would highly recommend travelling through at least one of those countries while your over there. Reply to this

Hey Rhino

Do you think 2 weeks will be enough for him to cover Vietnam ?!?! were you in rush when u did it in 2 weeks ?! this question is important for me too as iam confused how many weeks i need for Vietnam 2 -3?
Thanks 😊

Back2

If you have been to Thailand before, then split the 6 weeks in Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

I think there is no real time that should be spent in a country. There is always more to see and there is always something to be got out of going for a short time too.

I think the most efficient amount of time to spend in a country is the amount of time given on your visa before you have to renew it. Then renew it if you really want to stay longer. Reply to this

Like i said 3 weeks would be sufficient to travel down the coast from north to south at a comfortable rate assuming your not staying at any one place longer than 5 days and you can endure some long overnight hauls on the bus or train, although this is all subject to what you want to do and where you want to spend the most of your time. You could easily spend a month in Vietnam and still not see everything so it depends on what you want to do and see. Reply to this

Hi,
The good mountain for trekking is Fansipan peak in Sapa, Vietnam, but this time the wearther in sapa is very cold.
With the nightlife you'd been to Sai Gon in Vietnam, the good place for drink and party. Reply to this

I would stongly reccomend heading to Dalat as part of your trip to Vietnam. A lot of people do not include this on their itenerary from Hanoi to HCMC. It is town that is in a highlands area, and gives you a nice break from the heat. The town is not so exciting but we took the easy riders and done a tour round the surronding areas. The easy riders do not have a shop or anything, they will approach you to ask if you want a tour then you can come to some kind of arangement. This area is much much quieter than Hanoi and HCMC. We enjoyed a one day tour with these guys so much that we aranged with them to take us for couple of days down driving down to Mui Ne. It was absolutely brilliant and they took us to tonnes of places that we would never have went on a conventional tour and we went to peoples houses for cups of tea on the way, so you really got an insight into how people live and work.
Our easy riders were called Chung and Bing, and they were a really good laugh and good company to be around. If you are approached then ask to look at their customers comments so you will get an idea how many trips they have done and how people got on.

I spent 4 weeks in Viet nam, this was a perfect amount of time to see most things, although we missed out on Sapa we did do some mountain treking outside Dalat. Reply to this
