I'm thinking about traveling to Buenos Aires in the spring. My husband speaks Spanish and I do somewhat. We are not afraid to travel to foreign countries so we are not looking to stay in touristy type hotels. We like to blend in with the people and see what living in a city is like.
I wanted to know what area of Buenos Aires I should look for hotels in. I would like a hotel that is close to good food and shopping. I don't want to stay so far away from attractions where I'm spending most of my day in a taxi or on a bus.
I'm not looking to stay in a hostel but a reasonable hotel 2 or 3 stars will be fine.
Any suggestions??
Reply to this Hi Lucy,
There are tons and tons of hotels in Buenos Aires. If you are just looking for 2 or 3-stars, I would hop online and check out some of the popular sites to get some ideas. Then contact them directly to book. I work with Argentina a lot but we don't book anything less than 3-star. There has been a recent explosion of boutique properties in the city as well. They are not always cheap but there are some very cool properties.
Reply to this Hi Lucy,
I love Buenos Aires so I may be biased, however, Palermo district is a very good option to make it your base.
Close to downtown, to Zoo, Botanic garden, to Belgrano district, to Palermo and Japanese gardens and cool at night as well, full of cafes and restaurants.
Lovely atmosphere...check Palermo viejo!...
To get more ideas, please check...
Happy travels,
Daniel
Reply to this I checked out several different hostels in BA - I didn't stay in hotels. I stayed in the central area - Limehouse, Milhouse, BA Stop etc - which is a little more city, than nice neighbourhood. Next time I'd definitely stay in Palermo - I visited friends at Palermo House, which looked really good and you can get private rooms there.
Enjoy! E
Reply to this Hi,
If you want cheap, central, clean, there is an Ibis right in the middle of the city. I know it's a boring suggestion, but it's very safe and easy. If you want to hit a little higher, check the site of Kempinski...they often have great deals for a little more cash...and a lot more luxury.
Agree for Palermo, speacially Palermo Soho...great area, but don't know that many places around...and boutique today can mean a lot more expensive!
Have fun, BA is an amazing city!
Reply to this Greetings! I have seen a strong move from backpackers and travelers staying in apartments and not in hostels and hotels. To me this is an interesting phenomenon because I have been to Buenos Aires on business trips and only in recent years have apartments become available to tourists. I have started renting apartments when I come to BA because it is actually cheaper and allows me a certain feeling of freedom and independance in a foreign place. There are many many agencies to choose from with apartments - byt, tobaires, etc of different prices and neighborhoods and size. I use http://buenosairesstay.com and find them to have flaw customer service, all agents speak English natively and they have a well-informed and attentive conceirge.
Reply to this Hola a todos! I'd like to echo the comment made by Jackiebis. I stayed in a hotel when I got here and I found it difficult to communicate with the staff there and also I felt it was pretty impersonal. My Spanish professors recommended http://www.buenosairesstay.com because I mentioned I wanted more personal attention and help finding the perfect apartment for my needs...I am older and wanted to stay in Palermo with out being in a hostel with crazy kids and i found that I could entertain in my apartment and I even am paying less now in my flat. Youre best bet is to go with a luxury apartment - it should make a week long stay more special. all the best
