We provides Nepali Culture and training for foreign volunteers who wish to render
their services to Nepal. We send trained volunteer to Orphanages, schools and communities to generate
awareness regarding environmental issue, orphans care, sanitation, income generating initiative, teaching
English and health care.
You will receive language and cultural training on arrival to Kathmandu. All of our placements
are in homestays as they are near where you will be teaching or doing community work and will give you more of a
authentic Nepali cultural experiences.
We does not ask for any formal qualifications from our volunteers.
All we ask is that you have a genuine desire to help people and are committed to
seeing the programme through. If you are applying to teach English, a strong command of the English language is a necessity.
Similarly, if you are interested in volunteering at a health post, some prior medical experience
and first aid skills would be useful.
Here's the program outline:
Homestay / Cultural Exchange
Homestays and cultural exchange programs can be arranged in most areas of Nepal.
You will be placed with a Nepali family in a small rural village or within
a city for the duration of your stay. This provides the volunteers with an excellent
opportunity to learn about all aspects of Nepali culture, lifestyle, language, food and people.
Nepali culture is distinctively friendly and open and made to feel as
though you are part of the family.
Teaching English
The system of teaching is different in Nepal. Volunteers do not need to use
the same method; but there will be times when you need to follow the school
curriculum - for example - to prepare the students for exams. They will be
encouraged to use their own teaching methodologies. Volunteers will stay
with a Nepali family near the school. Volunteers will teach for anywhere
between 2 to 6 hours each day for six days a week (Saturday is the day off).
This will vary from school to school. The age range of the students will
vary, but generally fall between 10 to 14 years of age and have basic level
of English. Volunteers for this program are encouraged to work with local
teachers to develop new teaching practices and help with their personal
conversational English to enable them to teach English in the future.
Orphanage work
Volunteers will be placed in an orphanage or Children's Care House where
they will assist the children in their day to day routine (Volunteers still
live with a host family or where available in the actual orphanage/ Care
House). There are several orphanages you can be placed in, all within an
hour from Kathmandu. Parijat Nestle, Kathmandu examples of Children's Care Houses in
Kathmandu, established to give a rebirth to the past and futureless
girls from the prison and abandoned ones by including social, cultural
and family values and civic sense to them.
The children are mostly between the ages of four and fifteen, and have a basic understanding
of English. The general role of the volunteer will be to act as an older
sibling: to care for, look after and encourage the children. Volunteers will
teach the children general life skills, including health and sanitation, as
well as arts, crafts and music. In some of the orphanages the children do go
to school, and you can help the children with their school homework .
