I would be reaching Thailand (BKK) on 19th June Afternoon.
This is my first visit to Thailand and would like to visit the South side of the country.
Any cheapest route suggestion from Bangkok to Phuket/Krabi?
Where should I go first - Phuket or Krabi?

Hello Ziaul 😊

You can take a bus from the Southern bus station in Bangkok directly to the bus station in Phuket town. That is the cheapest way to go.
You can also take a bus to Krabi from Bangkok. There is a bus which runs between Phuket town and 4 KM from Krabi town. There is public transport which will take you from Krabi bus station into the town and visa versa.

I dont think it matters which you go to first??

Yes, it takes 16 to 18 hours to get to Phukett from Bangkok on the bus. Take a night bus, otherwise the journey may seem too long. The VIP busses are the most comfortable to sleep on and still not expensive.

I was in Thiland both during the on and off seasons and never had trouble getting accomodation without probooking.

Whether Patang is the best place to stay or not depends on what you like. It is a heavily touristed beach.

I stayed in Phukett town when I was there. It is a good place to stay because it is easy to get the public transport busses to the various beaches. If you stay on one of the beaches you would have to get a taxi to the others or else go into the town on the bus and then out to a different beach.

I dont have a journal. I have never made one about anyplace I have been.

I have not been to Krabi but it seems to be more a place for activities like rock climbing rather than night life. Well that is how my Lonely Planet guide book makes it seem. Reply to this

From Bangkok to Phuket by bus, it takes just 10-12 hours.

You can buy the ticket at the Southern bus terminal. Phuket travel and Phuket central tour are the best company for this route. Reply to this

Thanks for the info 😊

Initially i was thinking that i'll visit Phi Phi island, Maya bay and other islands (bambo island....) from Phuket only but here in the blog i saw lots of travelers are visiting those islands from Krabi instead of Phuket!

I'm a bit confused now.....is those islands far from Phuket? Reply to this

Phi Phi island is located in Krabi area. Due to the huge number of tourists in Phuket, the boat from Phuket to Phi Phi islands is also available. You may go from Bangkok to Phuket, then to Phi Phi island and end at Krabi.

Have a nice trip. Reply to this

That sounds like a +ve plan to me 😊.....Thanks Chakrit.
What are the islands i can visit from Krabi other than Phi Phi? Reply to this

I agree that there is not really any night life in Krabi... Although I found a place called the Reggae bar (I think) .. which was really cool. I think there are alot of out door things to do in Krabi but as I was there only for about 2 days on the end of my last trip I only really chilled out.

Phi phi was my favorite place in Thailand last time I went. We didnt get hassled by girls offering massages etc.. or by sales people trying to sell you something - like you do in Phuket or Bangkok and the vibe on the island is really relaxed. The people there are beautiful. If you're into tattooing there are a couple of tattoo studios offering the traditional bamboo style of tattooing. Make sure you get a mango slushy on the beach (they are soooo good! haha) and if you liked the movie "The Beach" you can get a boat to Maya Bay on Phi Phi Lei - but although it is really beautiful, it is full with jetboats and all the other tourists wanting to check it out.

Ahhh memories - I cant wait to go back! - Hope you have a good trip :o) Reply to this

The other islands, as I known, are Poda island and the other one I can't remember its name. There you can see the small and long beach connect 2 islands together. Reply to this

Ok.
Now i'm planning to exclude Krabi since my interest is to visit Phi Phi, where i can go from Phuket as well.
I have already applied for Thai visa, hope will get it by Monday.

Chakrit....what is the best way to reach southern bus stop from BKK airport? Any sky train other than Taxi or Tuk Tuk (that surly m gonna avoid since all r suggesting). Reply to this

Are you sure you need a visa for Thailand?
Citizens of many countries are eligible for a 30 day visa exemption. These are available free of charge when you arrive in Thailand.

To get from BKK airport to the Southern Bus station, it is possible to take public transport but that may be a bit confusing for somebody who is in Thailand for the first time.

Another option would be to take the tourist bus just outside the airport. If it wont go as far as the Southern Bus station then ask them to let you out at the Khao San road and take a taxi from there. Altogether this will cost you around 6 Euros. Be sure to ask the taxi driver to switch on the meter. Otherwise it will cost more. Reply to this

Yes Mell i need a visa for Thailand, that cost around 45 US$ and i guess this is applicable for Asian countries!

Thanks for sharing the 'tourist bus' & 'taxi from khao San road' idea....i'll certainly follow that 😊
I'll remember to inform the cab driver to switch the meter on as well.....thanks for the tips 😉
but pls also suggest if i hire a cab from the airport to southern bus stop how much it may cost and how long it may take to reach (including traffic jam). Reply to this

I presume you are flying into the new international airport. That is quite far from the centre of the city. I would allow a couple of hours for it.
A taxi all the way to the bus station will cost around 10 or 12 Euros.

If you have some time before the bus leaves from the Southern Bus Station, then there is a nice air conditioned cafe there. Walk around the where the busses park until you find it if you want someplace comfortable to wait.

Is the 'AKAMAI' & Southern Bus Station same place?

10 - 12 Euroooooo 😞......EXPENSIVE!!!
Taking the tourist bus & taxi from khao San road would be the best idea.....i can save @lst 6 Euro than!
I heard there is a bus in every 30 minutes for Phuket? Any idea 'bout the bus fare to Phuket? Reply to this

I have never heard of AKAMAI but the taxi driver will know what you mean when you say Southern Bus Station. But you can always ask one of the airport staff to write if for you in Thai, just in case.

If you want to really make it inexpensive to get to the Southern Bus Station, you can try some the following.
If you land at the new international airport take the free shuttle bus from in front of the airport to the old airport. Then take the 556 bus to the Khao San Road. Ask somebody on the bus to tell you when you are near the Khao San Road. Then take the number 3 local bus from near the Khao San Road to the Bus station. That altogether will cost you less than one Euro for the two busses.
If finding the number 3 bus is too complicated then you can take a taxi from the Khao San Road. Altogether with this option you will pay less than 2 Euros to get to the bus station.
But before you get on the 556 bus, be sure to ask if there is a bus which goes all the way to the Bus Station.
