I've been told that Kaua'i would be better than Honolulu.
So, is 1 day in Honlulu okay and then 5 in Kaua'i doing:
Kalalau Trail
Na Pali mountains
Sailing catamaran, e.g. HoloHolo Charters, tour sea off Na Pali coast
Humpback whales
Waimea Canyon (drive, walk, horse, 10miles)
Hanakapi'ai Falls
Spouting horn geyser
Po'ipu beach
Tunnel's beach

Any thoughts? Reply to this

I am going to drive the California Coast for a week and then get a flight out of LA.
Turns out I can fly direct to Kauai.
Would it be better to miss out Honolulu completely and just spend 5 days on Kauai?
Is 5 days too much?
I'm more of an outdoors person than wanting to see cities but would like to visit some typical backpacker destinations as well as am travelling solo. Reply to this

Yes, Kauai is by far better.
You can skit Honolulu all together. North Shore is good.

Kauai is a lot better for you if you like the natural outdoors stuff. I hiked to a waterfall up the Kalalau trail (I forget the name, we didn't have time to hike the whole trail) and it was amazing to see. We also did a zodiac tour of the Na Pali coast from Waimea which was really cool too we got to see the cliffs, a few cool rock formations, whales, dolphins and sea turtles. We didn't see Waimea canyon but heard it was pretty cool. Poipu beach was pretty crowded when we went there, but a seal came up onto the beach so that was interesting. Have fun Kauai is awesome!

Are there any decent hostels to stay at on Kauai?
I heard bad reports about all of them but as I'm travelling, backpacker places are about the only chance you get to socialise a bit. Reply to this
