On the bus
On the bus So we have spent the last two days wandering around Salvador. On the first day we arrived we just went for a light stroll considering we whad just been on a bus for over 30 hours. We got the low down on what street not to walk down and where was nice. The city is noticably not as friendly as Rio but is very different and great to see, there is such a huge diversity in Brasil. Salvador has a very strong African connection and it feels a little like walking in an old Carribean town!!
Yesterday Anne and I went out for the day with two English people who have been travelling around SA for the last nine months so they were good to get some information off. We tried to find the beach but ended up getting about 6 buses and completely lost somewhere in the suburbs but was a good day. We eventually found the beach and boy was it busy!! I think we were the only foreigners on the beach. We watched a surfing competition, had a couple of beers and some foob before trying to find our way home again. We again got slightly lost but
On the bus
On the bus had a slightly better sense of direction and found our way late in the evening. Yesterday evening we went out for dinner with the English pair for pizza next door which was lovely. Then back to the hostel for a few more drinks before a great sleep!!
Today we went to see the museums and the things you have to see as are leaving Salvador tomorrow. We went to the Afro Brasilian museum and then to the local market which was buzzing to say the least. Almost bought a few things but held back, maybe tomorrow before we leave but have to watch the cash carefully as Brasil is the most expensive country we visit in South America! This evening we are going to a show with Capoeira and some sort of Brasilian - African theme so looking forward to that, we are going with a dutch couple and three english girls (seem a bit loud as usual!!), but will be good to see how the poeple from Salvador entertain!
Will try load some photos up after but doesnt seem to be working here so apologies if they dont load up!! Ciao
