Sunday, i was invited back to Lucys house. The head of the house mothers.I´ve been told by many people that she only takes to a small minority of the volunteers and rarely people are invited to her home, let alone going twice. So i feel privileged and happy about that. So myself and kike (one of the boys here) went to her house where we went to play football with her husband and four sons for the same local team as week previous where we drew 1-1.It was good fun.
Followed by the best meal ive had since coming here. Lunch is the main meal here as opposed to dinner. It was this spicy nandos like chicken cooked in beer. We drank for the rest of the afternoon. Was good fun and i found myself thinking that i was with a group of complete strangers and never thought i would make friends with people like i have done. They have given me peruvian football shirts as keepsakes and really appreciate a friendship with me.
It has been a couple
Selena
Selena is one of the younger children, who made me 3 valentines cards. Bless her. of long yet exciting days.
Yesterday 13th Mon, with an early start in the Shanty Town, Las Laderas where i coached for several hours before returning to the refuge. I was accompanied by two of the lads from the refuge who gave me a hand filming and with translation.
It was a superb day, taking a long all the equipment surrey sports park provided me, as well as small keepsakes and bibs provided by the FA. Pictures of the day are attached.
It was overwhelming to have so many children so eager to have a football session that i had to narrow it down into separate groups. Then also arrange to go back in March for those i didnt get round to. The children have nothing, some have never heard of the premier league, Chelsea or Wayne Rooney. But they play football because they can, because its there for them, it is there for anyone. Thats why i love football.
In the evening it has become routine that myself and the late teens have a volleyball game, is always great fun. But last night a member of staff did a games night where everyone was split
into two teams and competed in races, drama acts, dancing and singing. I was a judge a long with Lucy, where we decided it would be funny to cut mine and Kikes hair so that they were the same. Crazy evening.
Being valentines today, where it is much less commercial here, it was very exciting as all the children are encourgaed to see it as the day of friendship. So cards and sweets were flying round and it really felt like one big family here. People here have nothing but each other. This makes them happy. Michela has been here for 2 weeks from Sweden, who has been doing activities with the younger children, she left today and was sad to go. I dont want it to be me. Pictures attached from today.
Tomrrow i head off to Casma for 10 days to do a small amount of coaching, but mainly to make a good time for those here in the refuge.
I hope to update again soon...
