I was contacted by a friend of mine concerning travel to South America. I was a little hesitant, for I had already had a vacation this year, but then I thought about it, and I said why not. Saying that, now I was on a journey to this wonderous location which was quite unexpected. There were two others and me that decided to take this journey. I was so excited, and for our main reason for the travel, we were going to one of the worlds wonders, Machu Picchu. To get there we were going to fly into Lima, Peru, then take transportation to Cusco, and make our way to Machu Picchu.
Now Lima is the capital and the largest city of Peru. It is located in the central coastal part of the country, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. I have heard of Lima, but really never had a desire to travel here until this trip. What adventures were ahead of me are a mystery, but I am so ready to explore.
We arrive in Lima, and our cab driver gave us insight of Lima which got me excited to be here. Our hotel is on what appears up on
a cliff right on the water, and we had a great view from there. We check in and decided to go out on the town to take in the sights. I had never been to this area of the world, and this particular Lima night was beautiful. I was just so excited to be here. We didn't have a lot of time initially in Lima, but we had enough just to get a feel of the sights, sounds, smells, and culture. We actually walked a good bit, and had a nice Peruvian supper. I knew we would be back for the last leg of the trip, so we look around a little more, and then go back in for a good nights rest, for we had to make our way via bus to Cusco the next morning.
09/16/2018: Back to Lima after a wonderful trip to Cusco and Machu Picchu. We had a day left, and we had decided and booked a tour of the city of Lima. We had to take the tour shuttle from the airport, and we had a shuttle driver, Joel Guzman, taking us to the city center and for the tour. Also on the
shuttle was our local tour guide, Willie, and actually we were part of a group. Miguel and Jonathan were friends on a hiking adventure taking the tour as well. So a total of five of us touring, tour guide and driver on the small shuttle bus. Fun.
We stop at the city center, and as we walk around, we are explained some of the history of Lima, as well as taking in all of the sights, sounds, and smells. It was really neat to see the people, experience a little bit of the culture, and just see how care free everything appeared to be. I am thankful we did take a tour, for otherwise, all I would have known was the oceanside and the area surrounding. My eyes were opened up during this half day or whatever it was. We finish up the tour, and say our goodbyes to the others. We make our way back to the hotel, clean up, and then go out and have our last Peruvian supper. We toast each other, and we reflect on the trip we experienced. As this was the last night of our journey, I was a little saddened that it
was coming to an end, however the experiences I had couldn't be taken away, nor would I trade them for money.
We got a cab back to the airport, and our driver, Freddy, really was hilarious, and made the ride quite enjoyable. Another trip in the books, and what a trip it was.
