Santa Marta is a small town on the coast, with very friendly people and very high temperatures. Aiesec chapter here is young and actually they function more as an extension, not a real chapter on its own. As I understand, they are waiting for a big national conference where they will brief the MC about their results and if the MC is satisfied with their work, they might obtain the right to function as an Aiesec chapter with full rights. Well, apart from me, there are only 2 more trainees, from the States, Joel and his girl-friend Stephanie, and we all work as teachers here.

The town is small and there's nothing much to do around here, it reminds me of the countryside where we used to go when we were little to visit our grandparents, my sister and I, and dreaded going there, as we would always get bored to death...it's pretty much the same here.

I've made a few friends, among teachers, and very few among Aiesec-ers, as they're busy with their own stuff and not very keen on socialising with the trainees.

I live with seƱora Ofelia, a great Colombian lady whom I call my

Colombian Mom. She is the manager of La Sierra Hotel, one of the hotels in El Rodadero, the touristy part of Santa Marta. She enjoys looking after me and spends a lot of time with me. She likes sharing stories from Colombia's history and is genuinely proud of her country. She knows so much, is like a walking encyclopedia, absolutely fascinating! Although I pay her rent, she offers to lend me money every time I don't have a dime left to go out. And that, unfortunately happens a lot, as I am a biiig spender, love shopping and as there's nothing better to do at the weekend, I hop on one of those taxi motorbikes and head to the mall. I always return a few hours later, exhausted and with heaps of shopping bags 😊

I'm thinking to change my traineeship, as it's not very exciting sticking around here for a whole year, so I'm talking to Aiesec back home and hope to find another school in a bigger city, more touristy and with a better Aiesec chapter.

I'm posting a few pictures, after 10 minutes of rain, the streets of El Rodadero were flooded and the entire

town was under water...I had to take a taxi to get home and when I reached home, I was soaking wet. The only good thing about the rain is that it is always warm ....Walking in the rain can be pleasant, well... just not for miles!

Also a few pictures with lovely senora Ofelia at the hotel she manages.
