Well I finally am finishing up my portfolio for my first internship with Propiedades Berdichevsky. Thank goodness that is almost over. I have created a 35-Page marketing plan which is currently being edited since Spanish isn't my first language. In addition to the 35 page marketing plan I have created 3 PowerPoint presentations, and 9 advertisement examples. YEAHHHHH!!! I will begin my new internship on Monday at UPLA working with Emi as well dealing with the marketing for the university. It's going to be a challenge to try to get it in Oscar's mind that miracles don't occur over the course of a few months. I hope I can handle the protests that will occur. I have heard some stories, so maybe it'll be exciting to see it for myself. I hope that all of you ... read more

About the places I have been in Chile: -The greeting is a kiss on the right cheek for the ladies and men, but men and men shake hands. -Michael Jackson, Madonna, Barry White and Techno are apparently pretty popular here. -The milk doesn’t have to be refrigerated until it is opened. (must be a central and south america thing) -Condiments and Spices come in bags. -Rattails and Mullets are still in style here. -It is the second country in the world to consume the most bread per person (right behind Italy) -Pasta is also a dish that is widely consumed. -Avocado comes on anything and everything. -When it rains they eat Sopapillas (but different than I have ever tasted). -Pumpkin is an ingredient used in several of their dishes. -Vina and Valpo should be in the ... read more

Your mind can have the tendency to go crazy when you have a massive amount of thoughts, feelings, and emotions running ramped in your head and throughout your body day in and day out. What do you do when this happens and you feel it's too much to take? How do you release those natural occurrences to give you a feeling of relief and pure satisfaction? Do you empty the glass when it begins to overflow? Does that clean your mind and wash away those thoughts? Sometimes you have to call upon another's wisdom in life and personal experiences to teach a therapeutic technique (that's what I’ll call it) of feeling better with life in general. Emi taught Jennie and myself a tool used between her and a friend of hers in Minnesota to feel a ... read more

Before sunshine there's always rain. It has been raining this week and today was the first day the sun came out. A simple day of sunshine has the ability to brighten your entire life and open the window for more light to shine threw. I never knew that it could clear your vision and make things easier to see that were never all that clear before. This day for me started out to be quite tranquil (a word I have the tendency to use these days instead of calm). I went to class learned about some pronombres and how they are placed in the structure of a sentence. I came home and chatted with family and friends for a brief moment before I headed to Emi's. Before getting to Emi's I really wanted to drink some ... read more

This may be a little deep for a travel blog, but it's my thoughts and I feel like sharing them. So here it goes...... I never realized just how much a person can change by experiencing something completly unfamiliar. What exactly does it mean to seperate yourself from everything that is so familiar, everything you love, everything ostensibly comfortable? How does it change you to be a better person? "It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power." I woke up this morning and a huge part of me felt like my life is going ... read more

So I can't believe that we are in May already! Things have been going great here and Im sad that we only have 2 months left cause the time is going to fly by! On May 18th to the 23rd I will be at Easter Island, "Isla de Pascua" a.k.a. "El ombligo del mundo"--The belly button of the world!!!! which Im very excited about because its one of the most remote places in the world, 5 1/2 hours off the coast of Chile. We are going to be camping on the beach and renting a car so that we can check out the whole island. Im just excited cause they "lae" (spelling?!?) you when you get off the plane! But Im exstatic about being able to see the Moai statues. http://www.rapanui.cl/eng/index.html http://www.mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/ http://www.southpacific.org/text/finding_easter.html So as for ... read more

Well for all of you who know anything about wine.... know that Chile is a good place to be for that. I have enjoyed my trips to the vineyards. Needless to say it's always during the day so I'm tipsy just around lunch times during these trips. I don't know if I have felt as happy or tipsy as Oscar has during these trips but I think I have been pretty close. He's the director of Adelante for Chile and he's a funny little character when he's had a little to drink. Maybe it's the laugh when he has drank some wine, I'm not sure. We all had a great time each time I have gone. The first winery was called Indomita and had some really really good wine. We had more wine to drink there ... read more

So today was my first day teaching English (ingles)(profesora-teacher) at Ruben Castro Colegio--they even call me profesora which is pretty cool!!! I have a classroom of 15 students, ages 14-15 years old. A few of them speak conversation english, half the class speak more or less, a few words here or there. The rest not a word. So it was quite interesting to deal with those who could answer my questions and those who couldnt, as I tried to speak very little Spanish to them so that they can get used to hearing and speaking only in English. They all learn British english here so it was interesting to hear lil bits of the british english pop in every now and then. I have three tests this week, two I dont even really know what they ... read more

South America » Chile » Valparaíso Region » Valparaíso April 15th 2005

So have been spending th least couple of days in the Vs - Valdivia, Valparaiso and Vina del Mar. Valdivia is in the south and a mere seven hours from Castro. I headed over in the hopes of finer weather and civilization (ie something more than a 5 street place). I got both which was lucky but not really much else. Valdivia is a little town in the south, large in comparison with the rest of the places. It is situated near the lakes and volcanoes but quite frankly I have seen enough lakes to last me a life time by now. However I stayed for two days strolling about the town, venturing down to the market where the sea lions wait for the fishermen to throw them some scraps and essentially just enjoyed being somewhere ... read more
