One of the things that we were not sure about when planning this stage of the trip was whether or not we would be bored by staying in one place for seven days. That is not a concern with Valparaíso, and in fact we have extended for another three days. Besides, we are really enjoying living in a place instead of passing through in two days.
Our hosts have been great. Over the past week we have gotten to know them quite well, and we are particularly attached to Rene´s mother Sonia who lives down the street, and drops by often. We have adopted the local habit of eating a large lunch and instead of supper, a late snack called "Onces". For Rene and family, it´s usually a sandwich and coffee or tea. For us, we will usually have a meal at a cafe during the early afternoon (called almuerso) and will buy food (usually empanadas) to bring home for "onces".

Dear Abbey
I love hearing about your stay in Valparasio. I think having "Onces" in the evening is a great idea. I would like you to tell me what you like best so far about your vacation,so you can send me an e-mail or a letter or a blog. Keep having fun! I love you very much. Say "Hi" to your parents for me.
