Quarry or graveyard?
Easter Island and the starting point for anyone wishing to get ahead What a couple of days, we hired a quad bike yesterday to get aroung the Island (easily done in a day). We went to all of the sites you´ll have seen on National Geographic channel and some other smaller ones, we´ve taken over 200 photo´s between us and realised that SPF8 is not quite enough for a "tropical island paradise".
The first night here hit our pockets hard as Argentina is half the price for all items and the food is far better, drinks here are around the same price as London and sometimes more.
None of that has detracted from the amazing sight of "museum" pieces standing on the ground in front of you (and the two of us being the only people at a site).
Today was spent walking for miles as unfortunately our beloved quad bike had to go back to it´s shop this morning. So we spent a few hours walking to and from an amazing crater with a lake in the centre of it and plants growing. Zoe has now crippled her ankles and can´t walk and Leon has no knees left!!! Lets just say it took an hour and a half to
It´s my postcard
I have got my address book so this´ll have to do! walk down from the top in 28c heat, so u can imagine how long it took to walk up. Luckily for us a kind man in a clapped out banger offered to drive us half way (i´m sure he could tell we looked half cooked!!). That helped slightly but the dust clouds from the tens of other tour buses did not help our plight :o(
Tomorrow we fly back to Santiago for two nights, oh the joy...of another airport followed by smog.
