Sorry it's been so long since we last blogged!!!
Il start from when we went to Alison's house in the hills. It is gorgeous!!! It is almost like two houses in one. It can be a very summery, bright, almost villa like house and it can also be cosy and warm-especially with the log fire going! Cadu and Alison were kind enough to let us both ride one of their horses. It was soooo much fun, oh how we lurvedddd it! We both got on horses after so long and both got back into the swing of it quite quickly 😊 cadu is a brilliant teacher though so that helped!!!I also sunbathed at the pool, and was really scared of a snake coming out of th bushes and killing me (thanks dad) so that wasn't too relaxing, but I did get a tan, so all is well.On our way back to rio
on Sunday night cadu drove an winston (Ali and cadus-very spoilt- British bulldog) slept in the back with rach and I and he basically slept th entire way rested on Rachel's knee!!! So cute! But kind of strange. Like, how is that comfortable. So back in rio. We visited the solar
school again where we are volunteering to teach English to the children living in the favelas. Ad on this trip we had to encounter Maria. Now Maria is in charge of the solar school course and is actually unbearable and mental. I think she has a screw lose but hey she's doing a good thing so we gotta respect her really. But still, whacko. So we arrived at the school and split the kids into two groups and went over the song lyrics of skyfall (why, I don't no seeing as they barely no how to form a sentence let alone learn song lyrics!!! But then that is Maria) it was good fun though and I HOPE the kids got at least something from it. We also visited the school in the morning to help look after the younger children. This was good fun, slightly more manic than the average 'play group' in England but nevertheless it was structured and clean and the woman in charge seemed really nice and enthusiastic. When we talk about the favela and the solar school I don't want you guys to imagine some run down in the middle of nowhere dump because its not
at all-the school has a theatre, ok it's not the west end... But still!! It is a 'proper' school if you like, just run by a crazy woman haha. We have visited the favela a few times now as one of the boys who always comes and helps us teach the children (to translate for us and motivate the other kids) lives there. We actually went to his house and it was really cute! It was small but they all had their own rooms, they even had a flat screen tv! The staircases however were really steep and kind of just cement and the downstairs was literally one big room split into a kitchen and a lounge. This was Ronald's house which we visited. He is such a nice guy, really good English and really friendly. Very chilled out guy, we like him a lot.Today at the solar school we took the kids (I say kids they are about 17) on an outing. This outing consisted if Alison gettin told off (a grown woman being told off!!) for buying cakes for the students by Maria. Then walking around a (Portuguese) exhibition about some random singer and then sitting in a
cafe going over some song lyrics. I'm not going to stress anymore how crazy Maria is but does that day sound like a structured English lesson to any of you? Well, it CERTAINLY doesn't for me hahahaha! But I guess you just gotta let all the silly stuff she does brush over you and then when she finished talking just agree with her lol! That's what Ronaldo and I do anyway hahaha!! Much easier. Ohhhhhh yes!! Yesterday evening Ali and cadu took us to Alison's friends house. Her house was really cool and her friends were really nice, very bubbly and talkative. We had some sushi. Yummmm. Rach was in heaven (as she always is when sushi is involved) Still loving it here!!!! Heading to the beach tomorrow me thinksssss.Loads of love from us both xxxxxxx
