Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) sits on the Corcovado mountain overlooking Rio de Janeiro. Finished in 1931, it has been a fixture of modern Rio and is recognizable world-wide. Brazil has more catholics than any other country in the world. The statue was erected to greet visitors from all over the world to Rio.
