Hello all!
Well, after a short stay in Argentina we had quite a few long drives across the country and arrived in Puerto iggassu which was the region to see the iggassu falls from the argentinian side. We were told this was the best side to view the falls and i have to say it was a great day. The views were fantastic and the falls staggering. Got rather wet as you get really close to the falls and took a little jet boat ride under them which was fab! Got some good piccies too i think!
At the end of the day we had a very short ride on cindy the truck to take us across the border into Brazil where we stayed in a place called foz de iggassu. We stayed in a lovely site with pool ad stuff and we had a few days here too to chill after being on the road for quite a bit.
I took the opportunity to do a helicopter ride over the falls which was fantastic. We then wandered and saw the falls from the brazilian side which was good as you got really close to the devils throat!
Later we visited
the nearby bird park as Kim on our trip is an avid bird fan so so she gave us our own personal guided tour of the parrots. It was really good actually and all sorts of birds flyng around freely within the park. Saw some tucans too!
Had a bit aof a mad session around the pool on the evening (well its got to be done everyone now and then, you all know how i cant resist the vodka-and they make fab caiporoskis out here-yum!) surprisingly ended with most of us in the pool fully clothed-very amusing!!
After Iggassu it was off the a place called Bonito, the ecological capital where there was the opportunity to do all sorts of activities-snorkelling, diving, horse riding, quad biking. Since we were a day ahead of our itinery we had an extra day here again to chill! However, silly me, as you probably all already know (since ive emailed eveyone in the bid to get all the sympathy i can!) decided to play silly buggers and attempt to stand on a hammock. Not a good idea. I fell backwards and landed direct onto my back and whacked my head. Thought i was ok
me and caz fishing
Didnt get a bite!! but couldnt get up off the floor. Took me about an hour to get seated. Then i couldnt walk, so Carolines granny walking came into practice and walked me everywhere. I was a bit concerned what i had done but decided to see how it went. However the next day, since i couldnt do the activities i decided to make the most of the sun and attempted sun bathing and got stuck on the sun lounger! So it was a trip to the hospital to see a specialist who confirmed what i had been thinking (or dreading) it was most likely a fracture of the pars (for thoses physios out there) i.e part of the vertebrae. Not particulary serious if you can rest it and let it heal but quite painful so then it was trip to the chemist for a painkiller shot in the arse!! Since then its got a bit better and i can stand straight now and walk better. but cant spend too long on my feet, and my leg and ankle has begun to swell. So it certainly did end up being a time to chill in bonito for me. Think the others had a good
time though and caroline enjoyed the snorkeling.
On leaving Bonito we went up to the Patanal which was fantastic. Didnt know what to expect but had a really good time. I Couldnt do the kayacking or horse riding. But we went on a river boat cruise to catch piranhas and feed them to the Caimans (crocodiles!) WE then had a BBq and watched the stars that night up on the hill. The next day we went on a safari around the area. We stayed on a ranch/farm place so plenty to see. I think the site it 12000square km (but that sounds alot so not sure if i have my facts correct). Got to see loads of different birds, caiman, capybara, giant anteaters plus more. On the eveing we did a night safari which was really cool. Saw more of the same stuff but also 2 ocelot (like small jaguars) and owls. Really enjoyed our time there but boy it was hot. Luckily we had air con in the rooms. I know some other trucks stay out in hammocks when theyre in the pantanal so we were lucky as i am now hammock phobic!
From Pantanal, it was another good
sunset at the pantanal
yet another sunset shot couple days travelling with camping enroute. I kipped on the truck one night and upgraded to a room the 2nd as dont think i would have got up off the ground once i was down. And here we are arrived in paraty yesterday. The camp site we are staying at is heaving as all the overland trucks are here en route to rio for the carnival. So all is bedlam, i think everyone is definately gearing into party mood so should be good!! Weve got another day here when we go on a boat cruise tommorrow then leave for Rio on Friday. So next time i write will be an update on the carnival. Fingers crossed the back stands up to a bit of booty shaking at the carnival. Suppose i can always use my back as an excuse to having no rythmn.
Hope everyone is fantastic. Was good to get all your emails re the back. Take care
Nads x
(Sorry guys. Havent got time today to put the iggassu falls photos on as on different memory card and my BBQ food is waiting....plus the vino so will add these over the next couple of days) x
