Foz do Iguacu, day three

Our last day in Foz.

We woke up and headed to a really nice bird park. They have a lot of different species of birds and stuff, everything from butterflies to eagles. They are in big bird houses, and some of them you can even enter and walk among the birds. Parrots in all colours and sizes, really curious and funny (and for some, a little scary). It took all of Rosa's courage to enter the macaw house, those very intelligent parrots are great entertainment! One even managed to sneak up behind Rosa and scare her (see photos).

It is sad to know that some of the species have been driven to near-extinction by forest clearing and illegal hunting/capturing. I cannot in any way understand why someone would want to buy those animals on the black market as pets 😞

Besides the birds, there are some reptiles in the park. A huge anaconda was captured by local fishermen nearby some time ago. They were scared of it (of course!) and therefore captured it and it was brought to the park where it currently awaits its destiny. Crocodiles and turtles living in peace and harmony, and other creatures which I don't remember the names of.

Afterwards we went to see the triple frontiers.

The triple frontiers are the place where Paraná river meets Iguacu river, and are the borders between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. After some picture-taking, we walked up the river to a fish restaurant placen on the bank of Paraná, where we had a really great meal; the fish/seafood here is high quality and comes in great variances. As food here is in general: the cooking not always so good, but the elements are almost always really good. I will get back to that one in another blog.

In the afternoon we took the nightbus back to Joinville. A great trip to one of the most interesing places I have seen ended.

Seinasti dagurinn í Foz.

Við vöknuðum og fórum í svakalega flottan fuglagarð. Það eru margar tegundir af mismunandi fuglum og fleiru þarna, allt frá fiðrildum til arna. Fuglarnir eru í stórum fuglahúsum, og það er jafnvel hægt að fara inní sum þeirra og labba um á meðal fuglanna. Páfagaukar í öllum stærðum og gerðum, virkilega forvitnir og skemmtilegir (og fyrir suma, svolítið ógnvekjandi). Það tók allt hugrekki Rósu að fara inní macaw húsið, þessir bráðgreindu fuglar eru rosalega skemmtilegir! Einum tókst meira að segja að læðast upp að Rósu og hræða hana (sjá myndir).

Það er ömurlegt að vita til þess að sumar þessarra fuglategunda séu í útrýmingarhættu útaf eyðingu skóga og ólöglegum veiðum. Ég get ekki með nokkru móti skilið hvers vegna einhver vill kaupa þá á svörtum markaði til að hafa sem gæludýr 😞

Fyrir utan fuglana, þá er slatti af skriðdýrum í garðinum. Risastór anaconda var gómuð af fiskveiðimönnum rétt hjá fyrir nokkru. Þeir voru hræddir við hana (eðlilega!) og hún var færð í garðinn þar sem hún nú bíður örlaga sinna. Krókodílar og skjaldbökur lifa þarna í sátt og samlyndi, og líka önnur dýr sem ég man ekki hvað heita.

Eftir það fórum við að sjá þreföldu landamærin.

Þreföldu landamærin er sá staður þar sem Paraná áin hittir Iguacu ána, og þetta eru landamærin á milli Argentínu, Brasilíu og Paraguay. Eftir svolítið af myndatökum gengum við upp ána að fiskirétta veitingastað á bakka Paraná, þar sem við borðuðum mjög góða máltíð, fiskur hérna er mjög góður og fjölbreyttur. Eins og matur hérna er almennt: eldamennskan ekki alltaf eins góð og hún gæti verið, en hráefnið næstum alltaf mjög gott. Ég kem nánar að því í öðru bloggi.

Um eftirmiðdaginn tókum við næturrútuna heim. Frábær ferð á einn af áhugaverðustu stöðum sem ég hef séð á enda.
