Remote, Touristy Uyuni Yikes--I had only five days left on my Bolivian visa! Time to leave La Paz, Bolivia's capital (the highest in the world) and head to remote Uyuni for a tour of one of the country's highlights--the Salar de Uyuni. Barring another Bolivian roadblock or problems with the tour jeep, I would be deposited at the Chilean border on August 15, the last day of my visa--ah, life on ... Read Full Entry

As usual your pictures are beautiful...
such great composition and vibrant colors. You mentioned that you spent a few days in Iquique, Chile. It was the first stop on this season of Amazing Race, so I could picture you there in my mind. You, of course, have spent a lot of time in Peru...is that your new base until you visa runs out?

Peruvian visa--another story...
Thanks for your kind words on the color and composition, Bob. I don't know about this race, but desert-dry Iquique wasn't my favorite place though it was great to see the ocean after years away from it. The Peruvian visa is supposed to be 6 months in a year but they gave me extra time on my second entry. I'll either go to the Amazon to see if I can squeeze more months out of them on my return, or I'll just pay a fine of $1/day which will be less than what I paid to enter several countries down here. I do wish we all had open borders though I know that's not a popular sentiment.

Love it!
Great book to pose with. Sorry the visa is running short.

Ah, visas!
It was so great in the south of South America because I could stay three months in Argentina, then hop across the Andes or a river, get a stamp, stay awhile and return for another three months. In Bolivia, it was three months in a year--not enough! But I did find a lot of good books in exchanges, and it was great to live like a queen for awhile.

remarkable place you captured in photos
high desert, salt flats, flamingos; thanks for a peek at this special place in Bolivia. I am glad when you get a hot springs soak, a good veggie meal and nice, cheap place to rest yr head.

Flamingos galore!
Glad you liked the flamingos--it was so amazing seeing them outside a zoo and so fun photographing them! Good to be catching up on blogs--it'd be great if I were a fast blogger like you, but oh well.
