Made it to La Paz a couple of days ago after 17 or so hours of flying and two layover (1st in Fort Lauderdale, 2nd in Lima, Peru). It was colder than expected (33F at night) and the altitude is still bothering me. Getting from the airport to my hostel was an adventure itself. La Paz's terrain is not ideal for walking. I can see why the country invested in cable cars. These cable cars are amazing! Mi Telerifico, is what the locals referred to the cable car as. You can pretty much get to anywhere within the city. I was very timid stepping onto the cable car. Every intersection of the cable car cause a slight drop that sent my stomach up to my neck. After a couple of hours, I finally made it to my hostel. It was an old two story wooden building with a courtyard. The floor would creek as I would over it in my wet Crocs. I checked out local tourist attraction and did a City Tour, where you give a tip instead of paying a price for the tour. The food here is interesting. It lacked salt. I saw varieties of potatoes I'd never seen before. Potatoes the size of a pinkie. The Cholita fascinated me with their long dress and Chaplin hat. Visited the witch market where I got some Coca leaves. I was told that it would help with the altitude sickness, which it did. I need to acclimatize a bit more before moving to my next destination...
